happy holidays, everyone! my gift to y’all is my final video of the year! (and one i’ve been wanting to do for a VERY long time) … a retrospective on the old 90s Nickelodeon classic that made Nickelodeon history as the first sitcom with a predominately black cast - My Brother & Me.
while it only ran a single season with 13 episodes (surprising, i know), it seriously changed diversity in kid’s television. so, in this video, i talk about its history, how it made a lasting impression on black youth, why it was cancelled, were the actors are now, & whether or not a show like it could work today.
i even talked to one of the creators (calvin brown jr), so i got some behind-the-scenes details too.
this is definitely my favorite video of 2021, so let’s have some fun with this 90s Nickelodeon retrospective!
chapters:
00:00 - intro
01:56 - setting the nostalgic vibe
04:07 - brief overview of the show
07:10 - the culture, comedy & chemistry
10:59 - the storytelling, sentiment, & staff
14:49 - why it got cancelled
17:06 - where are the actors today?
19:08 - conclusion
