He was best known for playing Norm Peterson in all 11 seasons of Cheers with 6 Emmy nominations but no wins. He also had a very short-lived self titled sitcom, was Sabrina's boss in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, was a regular in The Naked Truth and some TBS sitcom I had not heard of, and guest starred on shows like M*A*S*H and Seinfeld.

Two of my April Fools' posts from this year and a few years ago turned out really eerie. Gilbert Gottfried died a few weeks after I made him the permanent host of Jeopardy! Now George Wendt dies a month after I made him NBC "EOM"s new president. :seeya:

George also guest starred in Columbo, one of its very last episodes from 1995 Strange Bedfellows.

Umm, you’re not planning to use Valerie in next year’s bit, are you?

RIP George :(

Devastating just devastating. George was a great actor. He will be missed. I hope Norm has his stool and all the beers he wants at the pearly gates. May he Rest in Paradise

I'll always remember everyone shouting "NORM!" when he entered the bar. I should also note that Diane was the only character to refer to him as "Norman." Though George Wendt is no longer with us, his presence lives on in reruns. May he rest in peace.

Sitcoms Online's blog tribute- Good thing Making the Grade flopped, otherwise Cheers as we know it wouldn't have existed.

It worked out well for George Wendt and Gary David Goldberg.

We also wouldn't have got Family Ties in the fall of 1982 if Making the Grade was picked up for a second season. Maybe Michael J. Fox wouldn't have become a big star. We could have had Back to the Future with Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly.

You say that like that would have been a bad thing.

Can’t find any episodes of Making The Grade, but here’s the opening credits (sorry about the snow in Cleveland. Not my fault)

He's a good dramatic actor. He was wrong choice for the part. They wanted it be more comedic.

Back to the Future wouldn't be the classic it still is today 40 years later without Michael J. Fox. He was always their first choice.

George Wendt will be missed. I grew up watching Cheers and he was huge part of the show's success.

Norm was probably my favorite character on Cheers, may George Wendt rest in peace.
