I got this in an email and I thought that it's just another pointless virus warning, but I decided to check cause I had nothing better to do. So I looked in my C: drive and actually found the virus sitting on my computer and in a matter of days my computer would have been dead and I would have never seen you all again. :crying: So just in case, you might as well check and be on the safe side. I've sent e-mail to Jenny before, so I'm sorry Jenny!!! LOL
>
>
>The virus (called jdbgmgr.exc) is not detected by Norton or Mc Afee anti-virus systems, the virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by the messenger and by the address book, whether or not you sent e-mails to your contacts. It may have been sent to everyone in your address book also.
>1. Go to start, Find or search option
>2. in the files/folder option, write the name jdbgmgr.exe
>3. be sure you search your "C" drive
>4. Click "search now" or "find now"
>5. the virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT
>6. right click and delete it will go to recycle bin...
>7. go to the recycle bin and delete it there as well
>IMPORTANT...if you find the virus, you must contact all the people in your address book so they can eradicate it in their own address books...

I deleted it, and I can't make heads or tails out of the instructions on how to put it back. I have Windows Millenium. What is Java anyway?
This is great.

Hopefully I can explain Java Correctly... Java is a type of website language.... IT is used usually in online games... like on Yahoo Games... where you play chess against other people... That uses Java... But its used in other stuff as well (Anyone else who knows feel free to add on)

Thanks for the information. I don't think I use Java. The link you provided stated that Windows Millenium will recover the file on its own, but I still wish I hadn't deleted it.

Not necessarily though. This time it just had you delete something needed for JAVA to work, not exactly the end of the world. But I have seen variations of this hoax floating around that would have you delete more important files. Only good thing is that with the way Windows is set up, you basically can never truely delete anything, so you can usually get things back. But that also means you can never truely delete a virus anyway.... remember, a virus doesn't become destructive until you open it. Just having it sitting there on your computer doesn't do a thing. About a year ago I must've got sent the Romeo and Juliet virus about 100 times, and like 6 months later I still found some files of it on my computer, but my computer's fine because I never opened the file.

I know your heart was in the right place, but in the future I would strongly urge you to check out at least one if not several of the following websites before you post a warning, to make sure it isn't a hoax:
http://vil.mcafee.com/hoax.asp
http://www.stiller.com/hoaxa.htm
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html

Well it isn't a Critical system file so you should be ok... Just remember... Its pretty much a fake if it says that virus companies won't be able to detect it.... Things like Norton and Mcafee detect almost all viruses...

IF You Have Windows ME I Think It's On 2000, XP DOES Have It Too. You Got To The Start Menu, Go Up To Programs Then Up To Accsessories Than To System Tools, Then There Shoud Be A Lil Thing Called "System Restore" In There, Hope That Helps ;)

The way my computer works is.... Log off, and log back on, and it will read, Go Back, hit spacebar (or something like that). Watch closely for this message as it disappears fast. Hit the spacebar.
It then asks you if you want to revert, click yes. I reverted back only 2 hours. It doesn't change e:mail or anything else, just your files.
Good luck!

Yes some viruses can be very harmful... Theres one that calls 911 from your computer! Others that when you send ims to people, it sends a link with it to them and that link is to the virus... Thats the Aplore... Others can make it so when you type stuff, it types other stuff instead... such as insults
