From 1999's Muppets From Space and 2011's The Muppets, there was a span of 12 years and an entire decade where there were no Muppet movies or TV shows being released.

When you look at it from a different vision The Muppets have always been successful in movies and TV but in the 2000's movies and TV shows featuring Muppets became scarce to find. Because after the stellar performance of the movie Muppets From Space we would never see another movie of The Muppets until the release of Disney's The Muppets movie launched in theaters and based on that movie's success they went on to create the sequel Muppets Most Wanted and the reaction of that movie was stellar as well. But during the 70's 80's and 90's we saw The Muppet Movie be the starting point of other The Muppets movies but it was 1984's The Muppets Take Manhattan that became a smash hit. And we saw it repeat with Muppet Treasure Island in 1995. But after that The Muppets had better success in TV shows with ABC's Muppets Tonight and once they saw how successful Muppets Tonight was for ABC people knew that The Muppets were more successful in TV than movies but even after 1992's The Muppet Christmas Carol became a holiday hit in theaters they knew that holiday Muppets TV specials worked well and starting with The Muppets Christmas Special debuting in 1988 ABC had a hit on their hands. But if you look at why there was a distinct lack of Muppet movies in the 2000's until Disney's The Muppets was because they felt that Muppets TV movies and TV specials performed better on TV. Which is why NBC had A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie in 2002 and we also saw ABC debut The Muppets From Oz which was a Muppets themed The Wizard Of Oz with singer Ashanti as Dorothy. But when Disney+ was launched that's where most of the new Muppets shows are being shown. Because based on the success of Muppets Mayhem who knows what other The Muppets movies and shows Disney+ will develop in the future
