If any of you have been brave enough to watch the episodes without Freddie, can you see any difference in Jack Albertson on the show? I'm sure he doesn't show the love he had for Freddie towards Gabriel Melgar. I was just curious if there were any telltale signs of Jack's sadness, I mean it must have been so very hard for him to carry on with the show. I still don't understand why any of them did. I would not have, especially if they were all so close. You could always see a "real" caring between Jack and Freddie on the show. That is so great to watch. You don't see that sort of thing on TV often enough.

I have noticed them Jack looks so sad i think he lost his best friend on the show and in real life. I read that Jack and Freddie where very close.

Just before Chico died he was less grounchy. Now he's back to being a grouch again except he seems to be nicer to Della & is more sadder...

It seems to me that Della is like Ed's caretaker now she looks out for him.

He does seem sad...dissapointed and lost. But Raul is good for him keep watching these show without Freddie. Jack does care for Raul he's just not himself. As for continuing on they all sighned a contract before Freddies suicide...no one had a chance but to got on.

The only thing I have noticed is that even though the shows go on according to plan...Ed seems distracted. He seems so lost. It's just as sad to watch Jack as it is to not see Freddie anymore. The whole thing is just so upsetting!!!

As sad as it is he is still making me laugh. Last episode he called some plumber a Rotto Rooter ******. And when the social worker asked him would he ever hit a child he says is he a plumber. heh heh LOL.

They should NEVER refer to Raul as Chico! It makes me so darn mad! They make is seem like anyone can fill Chico's shoes. By Ed Brown saying "you are all Chicos to me" is like saying you are a dime a dozen. Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but it wasn't a bright move. If they were trying to keep Chico's memory alive, they could have thought of a better way!

Everyone is calling the kid Chico now. Even when Ed told Della here if you see Chico give him this quarter she said ok and never corrected him.

I would've hated to be in Raul's position. He was just a kid, who really had nothing to do with Freddy's tragedy. To be cast into such a sad atmosphere must have been tough. I realize that few people have respect for his character, most likely due to his involvement in the show after Freddy's death, but I think his character was adorable, despite the unfortunate reasons for his character being necessary.

He kind of reminds me of All in the Family's Stephanie, who was seemingly cast because there was an "emptiness", once Gloria and Mike moved on. And both characters were orphaned and needed someone to take care of them. Like Raul's character, Stephanie doesn't seem to be fondly remembered, but they still make us remember that life does go on, no matter how sad it may be to leave others behind.

I like Raul i think he is funny but was put in a bad situation. Maybe if they changed the name of the show so it wouldnt be called Chico and the Man it would have been alittle easier to deal with.

I couldn't agree with you more. It was probably disheartening for most of the fans to watch the show continue at all after such a trauma.

I agree, they shouldn't have call Raul Chico. I do agree with ya about Raul & Stephanie. It msut've been hard for them stepping in place of beloved characters. Raul & Stephanie were cute. I hold nothing against Raul and I think he was a cute & precocious little dear. So sad they didn't preserve Chicos memory better...

They probably had Ed call Raul Chico to justify not changing the name of the show (for whatever their reasoning may have been).
