When i think of shows like Alice, Mash, Cheers, and Happy Days, Those were shows that were on for nine years or more with a ending to their show. But the Jeffersons never had a ending and was on from 75-85. So if anyone knows about any other show that was on for 9 years or more without a ending, let me know.

"The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" ran for 14 years (1952-1966) and didn't have a real final episode.

Well that sounds even more stupid-Writers coming up with ideas for 14 years and could not write up one last Episode. Who ever those writers for that show was should have never wrote for another show.

Sometimes shows are cancelled so suddenly that all the episodes for the season have already been made. It's not the fault of the writers.

Also, with some exception, in those days there was less emphasize on doing a final episode extravaganza like they have today. While I realize that I love Lucy was on for only six years (not nine or more--though if you include the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour it would be nine years) it never had a real "final" episode. "Gunsmoke" was on for twenty years but had no special final episode.

Married with Children was cancelled after all episodes where filmed, so it never had a final episode either. I believe it ran 11 years?

"One Day at a Time" also ran for 9 years and didn't have much of a finale. Actually, I guess it depends on how you look at it. IMO, Bonnie Franklin's last episode was more of a finale even though the show went on for a few more episodes after her departure.

True in a way, but cancellation was not official until weeks later. All in the Family/Archie Bunker's Place did not have an ending after being on the air of 13 years. After season 9 there was no bug finale because there were going to be changes for the 10th season. After all those years and changes with the family on the show, you would think CBS would have allowed the show to have a decent finale.

Goes to show you how much the networks care about the viewers. They would rather cancel a show because of ratings than give us a final episode. Any show that has been on for a long time deserves a final episode.

Obvious one for me....Gilligan's Island. Yes the had the movies and the reunions. But as for the series itself, a 4th season was all set to go when it got cancelled in place of Gunsmoke.

I have to agree on the "Married With Children" issue. Although the hour long finale with the wedding was the "final" episode, you wouldn't really know it when watching it in syndication. To those who would be unaware that it was the final show, they'd think it was just a normal episode. I for one was disappointed when seeing it. It was (and is) by far my most favourite sitcom, and for it to end like that was disheartening.
