View Full Version : Have you ever been in a long distance relationship? MidnightRose21498 10-27-2002, 10:29 AM Just curious. I've been in one for almost five years now. Mossopp 10-27-2002, 10:46 AM Good topic. I've never been in a long distance relationship myself, but a lot of my friends have and none of them have ever worked. I had a friend called Sarah who was with her boyfriend for over 4 years. Then her boyfriend had to move down to the south of England and they promised each other that they'd keep the relationship going. Now, these two were seriously tight - they had a really, really strong bond, but they just couldn't keep it together. A lot of my friends relationships had fallen apart when one of them moved away but, if I had to put money on anyone of them surviving the distance thing it would've been Sarah & Callum. Once Callum moved they lasted for 4 months before they broke up. I, personally, don't think that long distance relationships can ever work. I just wouldn't be able to handle being in a relationship with somone who wasn't around. Maybe I'm just too needy but I want to be able to phone my girlfriend when I'm bored/upset/lonely and say "come over, I miss you" and she'll always be there. I couldn't handle her being miles away from me. Also, if my girlfriend were far away from me, it'd always be in the back of my mind "Is she cheating on me?" - cos I'd have no way of finding out if she was. Maybe some people can handle long distance relationships and if they are happy with that then more power to 'em. I, personally, just wouldn't be able to cope with it. Titania 10-27-2002, 10:56 AM yeah, awhile ago. I dated this guy over the summer and he lived where my summer house is so end of summer came and I went home and we decided to give long distance a try and did for a couple months until I heard from one of my friends that he was dating someone else there...just another of my loser brigade. A few of my friends have had successful ones though- one is a junior in college now (pretty far away) and his girlfriend is a senior in high school and theyve been going out for a long time. And one of my friends is in south america on an exchange program and still w/ her bf here. MidnightRose21498 10-27-2002, 10:56 AM It is extremely hard. I get like that sometimes... needy and wanting him to be here with me when I'm down. It's a horrible feeling to go through. And even though I love this guy more than words can say... I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I hope this relationship last forever, but if it doesn't, I know I'm not going through it again. It's too much pain to go through emotionally. I guess what helps me is that when I think about the times we've been together in person it makes me so happy. I'm never more happy than when I'm with him in person. It's almost like I don't have a care in the world. We are just so cuddly and all over each other... and just so in love. It's the best feeling in the world when he's here. When he goes back... that's the problem. TibbyTibby2 10-27-2002, 01:17 PM nope... i couldn't do it. Chocoholic 10-28-2002, 12:30 AM If I really loved the guy, I could probably do it. Faith 10-28-2002, 01:50 AM I have been in a couple of long distance relationships. They don't work out too well for me, I get needy at times, and stuff. So I break of the relationship, usually Swimfan85 10-28-2002, 05:08 PM yah I have DJM77 10-28-2002, 07:34 PM nevermind TJL 10-28-2002, 09:10 PM Well, it looks like I am starting a long distance relationship now... Remember the "old flame" I wrote about a few weeks back? Well, things between us have been going well; we had another great time together this weekend, and it looks like we will be getting together in another week or two. We really haven't really discussed any long term plans or talked about a "commitment," but we have been talking frequently and we send e-mails, so for now the idea of getting together when our weekends are free seems to be working. So as I see things, a long distance relationship seems fine. -*Forever*- 10-28-2002, 09:32 PM Well, if it was one of the two people I like (a certain one) I would be able to do it. No problem. As long as I was in a relationship with them, it wouldn't matter how far away we were. The OTHER person, however... if they moved away, I'd just stop liking them. Which makes high school look bad *sniff* |
