With that being said, what artists have had a noticeable decline in popularity and/or critical respect, not because of specific messed-up things they did or said, but mostly just because they couldn't adjust to changing times or their music simply did not age well?

When the Beavis and Butt-Head cartoons put the name of Winger on the dorky little Stuart character's shirt, reportedly the band suffered greatly -- the attendance at Winger concerts dropped dramatically. All of this due to no fault of their own.

Robin Thicke fell out of favor. Not sure if anything he did would be considered scandalous.
