We Built This City (https://www.stereogum.com/2105047/the-number-ones-starships-we-built-this-city/columns/the-number-ones/) by Starship was a huge hit (https://www.reddit.com/r/80s/comments/1bjfz4r/setting_the_record_straight_on_we_built_this_city/) in 1985. It was a number one song which went on to become a rock classic and radio staple. In more recent years, however, it has been labelled (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskOldPeople/comments/1k3efdg/was_the_song_we_built_this_city_by_starship/) as one of the worst songs ever (https://www.reddit.com/r/ToddintheShadow/comments/1k6fxz5/is_we_built_the_city_the_worst_song_of_all_time/). Even Starship vocalist Grace Slick has called the song 'stupid'. But why has it gained this unfortunate label (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaGXYd1uSRE) and is there any weight to it?

Let's go through the full story behind (https://ultimateclassicrock.com/starship-we-built-this-city/) We Built This City (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Built_This_City) and examine just why (https://www.gq.com/story/oral-history-we-built-this-city-worst-song-of-all-time) it's become known (https://discover.hubpages.com/entertainment/why-we-built-this-city-is-considered-a-horrible-song-today) as one of the worst songs ever.

FYI: In radio commercials for Starship's current tour, this is the song that's used. So obviously claims of it being hated are grossly exaggerated...!

Because the music and lyrics really are stupid! I can't believe anybody has to ask that question! Just wow.
