As Deadline reported last month, Poppa’s House (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/cbs-cancels-damon-wayans-sitcom-poppas-house-after-one-season.5886527/) had been vying for a single remaining comedy slot on CBS’ 2025-26 schedule with three half-hour pilots, the single-camera DMV, the multi-camera Zarna, and The Neighborhood planted spinoff. It come down to DMV, Zarna and Poppa’s House (https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/141272-poppa%E2%80%99s-house-in-the-media-where-its-poppin/), with DMV ultimately getting the spot with a series order.

While Poppa’s House (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/1k5cdd1/poppas_house_canceled_by_cbs_after_one_season/) has been a respectable performer, earning a full-season order in November with a pickup of five additional episodes, its ratings were below the three other current CBS comedy series that have been renewed for next season, Ghosts, picked up for two seasons, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and The Neighborhood, picked up for a final season.

To improve its renewal changes, Poppa’s House (https://tvline.com/news/poppas-house-cancelled-no-season-2-cbs-1235417039/) was asked to trim its budget. While it is multi-camera, the more cost-efficient comedy genre, the series boasts top on-screen talent in the Wayans father-and-son duo.

With the cancellation, Poppa’s House joins CBS dramas FBI, FBI: Most Wanted and S.W.A.T., which also won’t be returning next season. The decision on Poppa’s House leaves drama The Equalizer as the only CBS scripted series still on the bubble with its odds for renewal believed to be at 50-50.

In Poppa’s House, Wayans and Wayans Jr. star as father and son opposite Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson. Wayans Sr. portrays the legendary talk radio host and happily divorced “Poppa,” who has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host is hired. His home life is no better, as the patriarch of the family finds himself still parenting his adult son, a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.

Damon Wayans Reacts to "Poppa’s House" Cancellation

Damon Wayans has penned a heartfelt thank you to cast, creatives and crew of "Poppa’s House", following news of its cancellation Tuesday after one season on CBS.

“Creating poppas house was such a beautiful journey,” Wayans wrote in a post on Instagram alongside a cast photo. “My heart is full as I say thank you to every single person who made Poppa’s House such a meaningful experience. To the incredible cast you brought so much heart, soul, and joy to every scene. It was an absolute honor to share the screen with you and create something special together.

To the writers, producers, directors, and the entire crew you were the heartbeat of this show. Thank you for your dedication, your passion, and for showing up every day with love and commitment. You made the set feel like home.



A very special thank you to my son, Damon Jr. working beside you has been one of the greatest joys of my life. And to my incredible family, siblings, children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who showed up as writers, guest stars, and creative forces you made this journey even more meaningful. It’s such a blessing to have so much love on one set and to be able to create and laugh with family and friends.

Though Poppa’s House is coming to a close, I’m walking away with deep gratitude, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. This show gave me more than I could’ve ever imagined.
