View Full Version : Because He Lives ...
Foggy 04-19-2025, 09:43 PM HAPPY EASTER
*Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know…ow…ow He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
*Taken from an old Gaither song,
“Because HE Lives.”
If Jesus had stayed in that tomb…
we of all men should be pitied.
Because we should have stayed single,
played the field,
lived selfish lives,
and died in a blaze of debauchery
with the words
’Eat, Drink, and Be Merry for Tomorrow We Die’
tattooed across our chest.
BUT…because HE lives…
…we get to spend eternity with the people we love right now.
…we continue to ask forgiveness to those we hurt.
…we continue to sacrifice ourselves for those we married.
…we can face hardship and broken relationships…and we never give up.
…we can face whatever tomorrow holds.
…ALL FEAR IS GONE.
HAPPY RESURRECTION DAY
The gift to all mankind!

trampling down death by death,

granting life."

Where do the bunnies and the chocolate eggs figure into the whole thing?
Bonniegirl 04-20-2025, 01:46 PM Where do the bunnies and the chocolate eggs figure into the whole thing?
I always thought new birth and springtime. Baby bunnies hopping around . Eggs laid by chickens , ducks, geese etc. ( Lots of baby birds born in spring ) .
Another theory about Easter eggs is symbolizing the rocks in front of Jesus's tomb.

Doesn’t explain the whole chocolate thing though.
Which Bible verse said
Lo, and Jesus beheld the Cadbury Crème Egg
And thus Jesus doth wept, because it was so yummy

OMG !! :eek::D
I guess cause chocolate is tasty and a very popular candy.
Also the tradition of wearing pretty color ( pastels usually . blue, pink, lilac, yellow ) dresses and flowery Easter bonnets to represent Springtime and happiness . And a nice big traditional meal. ( example ham or lamb ).
I'm not wearing a dress, but a cute sky blue sweatshirt with kittens, flowers, birds and butterflies on it. No Easter bonnet. :D And I'm making a ham dinner with all the trimmings . :)
Dude111 04-20-2025, 02:28 PM One year I had this huge chocolate bunny in my basket......
My dog (A greyhound) ate the whole thing!
Im glad the chocolate wasnt bad....... It doesnt take much to upset a dogs digestive system!!

biffbronson 04-20-2025, 06:02 PM In Orthodox Christianity, the shell of a real egg represented Christ's tomb, so breaking the shell symbolized the resurrection.
In the modern world, practically every major & minor holiday now includes candy, such as Christmas, Valentines Day, Halloween -- so including chocolate eggs in western world Easter celebrations for kids is a sort of take off on the traditional real eggs.
For Eastern Christianity, Easter or "Pascha" is THE big holiday. Much bigger than Christmas in every way. It's a little startling to see candy jokes, I don't think those would go over very well in many parts of the world.

Hope this gives you some CLARITY
Religious role of the hare
Easter is a celebration of spring and new life. Eggs and flowers are rather obvious symbols of female fertility, but in European traditions, the bunny, with its amazing reproductive potential, is not far behind.
In European traditions, the Easter bunny is known as the Easter hare. The symbolism of the hare has had many tantalizing ritual and religious roles down through the years. (...)
(...) Over a thousand years later, during the Iron Age, ritual burials for hares were common, and in 51 B.C.E., Julius Caesar mentioned that in Britain, hares were not eaten due to their religious significance.

Pagan origins
In 1835, the folklorist Jacob Grimm, one of the famous team of the fairy tale Brothers Grimm, argued that the Easter hare was connected to a goddess he imagined would have been called “Ostara” in ancient German. He derived this name from the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre, who Bede, an early medieval monk considered to be the father of English history, mentioned in 731 C.E.
Bede noted that in eighth-century England, the month of April was called Eosturmonath, or Eostre Month, after the goddess Eostre. He wrote that a pagan festival of spring in the name of the goddess had become assimilated into the Christian celebration of the resurrection of Christ.
While most European languages refer to the Christian holiday with names that come from the Jewish holiday of Passover, such as Pâques in French or Påsk in Swedish, German and English languages retain this older, non-biblical word: Easter.

EASTER SYMBOLS
Easter Eggs
.
Easter eggs are the most popular out of all non-Christian Easter pagan traditions. They aren’t directly linked to Christianity or Jesus’ resurrection but were a part of the north and east European pagan springtime holiday.
This is in honor of the goddess Eostre. Eggs, a symbol of birth and fertility, were naturally associated with springtime.
Once Christianity spread through Europe and the holiday of Passover coincided with Eostre’s celebrations, the two traditions simply merged.
However, Eostre’s colorful eggs did fit well with Passover and this new Easter, as eating eggs is forbidden during the 40-day Lent period before Easter.
People could continue the tradition of coloring hard-boiled eggs during Lent and then celebrate its end and Jesus’ Resurrection with delicious eggs and other special meals.
The Easter Bunny
The Easter bunny is a pagan tradition that not all Christian denominations follow, but it’s a big part of the Easter tradition in most of the Western Christian world, especially the US.
There are various theories about the exact origin of this traditional symbol. Some say it was brought to America by German immigrants in the 1700s while others say it’s an ancient Celtic tradition.
Either way, the idea behind the Easter bunny seems clear – it’s a traditional symbol of fertility and spring, just like the Easter eggs. That’s why the two are so often portrayed together even though there’s no mention of them in the Bible.

MrCleveland 04-21-2025, 11:04 AM I didn't do much this Easter...to me, it's just another day.
I don't have much family or friends to celebrate any holiday.

*[B]Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know…ow…ow He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
And then one day, I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!
Surprised to see these lyrics posted, because I've chosen these lyrics to be on the last page of my funeral program. I've written my obituary and funeral program, and made my final arrangements, a long time ago...making the whole ordeal easier for my kids.
