Hello Deborah!! :)
We are fans of both Freddie and your dad. From what I've read time and time again, they were very good friends and had become friends during the "Chico and the Man" audition. It must be very cool for you to know that your dad had been involved in film and television. :)
Welcome aboard Deborah and come back soon!
MaNdOSoNeFaN 10-26-2002, 06:04 PM Yah, my dad isn't a big fan of computers. Thats okay, I will get him to. It's weird and kinda neat hearing how you think he is cute. But how are all of you doing? I hope you believe me that I really am his daughter. well, one of his daughters. hehe. I'm the baby of the family. I am my dad's Deb-O-Gee. I have been wanting to see him, I got him a present. It's a dancing and singing james brown doll. My dad loves james brown so I had to get it for him. He will laugh when he sees it.
Deborah
Danisel331 10-26-2002, 11:51 PM Hi!
I'm about one of the last ones here I see. That's me! Always late! LOL Well, Welcome aboard! ;) Actually I'm closer to your age as I wasn't around yet when the show was on either, but I'm learning things all the time. You're gonna love the family we have here! Guaranteed! :D
Oh! And those James Brown dolls are so hilarious! I saw one in a store a while back. We played and cracked up with it the whole time! LOL
MaNdOSoNeFaN 10-27-2002, 12:08 AM thank you all for being sooo polite and nice to me. it makes me feel reall good. i know i will fit right in with all of you. one thing that was funny, is whenever we would go on a family trip ... lets say... california.. someone would ALWAYS recognize my dad and sayyy "BUTTCH" (my dad's nickname) im like geez dad aren't we mr. popular! haha. he is on the phone more than I am. at my age I should be the one being on the phone all the time. haha i wonder if I would have any chance to become an actress more since my dad was in the bizz. Again, if you guys want any info I will answer questions as much as I can. Like 2+2 and i will say 5 oops i mean 4 hehe. see you all later.
Deborah
**HUGZZZZZZZZ**
Luckymama58 10-27-2002, 08:25 AM Welcome! It is great to have you. We have found that CATM has attracted young and not so young alike. I am from the era when the show was on originally. I was in highschool and college at the time. Your dad seems like a really nice guy. We really like him around here too! Thanks for becoming a part of our little family here.
Cheryl Harrell 10-27-2002, 09:47 AM Cool! I think your dad will like the doll! He sounds like a real hoot! :) Actually even tho I watched CATM back in the 70's I am a newer fan of CATM/Freddie/Mando. I watched the show back then but wasn't into Freddie. Strange huh? Then when I found out it was gonna be shown again on TVLAND I decided to watch it cuz I hadn't seen it since it'd be taken off the air in '78. Watched the marathon & started watching the show & eventually Freddie made me love him & I got into him. Then I started noticing Mando & think he's cute & cool too now! It's funny how you can see something & not really go nuts for it & only think it's okay & good but not really hot & then yrs later Bang! You really get hooked & wonder where you were yrs ago.
Hopefully you can get dad more into puters. It's cool reading what he says on the sites. I bet he is from the old school like I am where you just didn't get into the puters cuz we're still trying ot adjust to the new techology & still love the old technology. I still have my 8-track tapes LOL! I found out I had to have the internet tho in order to keep up with my favorite stars as they just aren't in magazines etc these days & the puter is the only way to find out about them. Anyway have fun on the site! :)
Welcome to the family here! a Glad you could join us
Prince 10-27-2002, 02:36 PM Hi Deb,
Welcome to the boards. You will like hanging around here because everyone is so nice. Even though this board is dedicated to our handsome Freddie Prinze...we also are fans
of your dad's. Any friend of Freddie's is a friend of ours. Freddie was known for his great taste and from what we have read, admired your father very much. I'm glad they we're friends.
hue_mee 10-27-2002, 03:02 PM Deborah,
I have had a wonderful time corrispoding with you these past few days. Your dad has been great chatting with this past year also. Sharing his memories of his career in Hollywood as well as his friendship with Freddie has been an awesome experience. Thank you Deborah for coming here to the Sitcoms board!
MaNdOSoNeFaN 10-27-2002, 10:39 PM yah my dad really isnt a big fan of technology. he saw me typing on the computer the other day and he said "HOW DO YOU TYPE SO FAST!!!youre a pro" it was funny. one of those moments you had to have been there. If you all could do me a favor and keep my boyfriend brandon in prayer. He just lossed his best friend in a car accident. i would really appreciate it. :( I wonder how my dad felt when he heard Freddie died. I can only imagine. Sad how good people are the ones to go. But I guess that love grows stronger for them. Deborah
Chica 10-27-2002, 10:40 PM When I was kid I watched Chico and the Man.. I had the biggest crush on Freddie and "Mando". I always had a hard time choosing who I liked more so I chose both..WELCOME to the board Deborah.. You'll like it here:wave:
hue_mee 10-27-2002, 10:51 PM Hee hee Deborah I can just hear your dad say that! From all the conversations your dad and I have had together. He sure can get all excited on the phone. His impressions of Louie and Ed are so funny!
Deborah, on a personal note I will keep your boyfriend Brandon in my prayers as he grieves over the loss of his best friend. I know from a past lost of a friend from a car accident it can be very devistating. My prayers are with him.
Moonlight Lady 10-28-2002, 10:24 AM Deborah,
Hi, i'm Katie, It's nice to meet you, Welcome to our world :)
I'm sorry to hear about Brandon's best friend. What a horrible thing to happen :( I will absolutely keep him in my prayers.
atlangel 10-28-2002, 02:41 PM Welcome aboard Deborah!! We are so happy that you have joined us here. It is wonderful to be in contact with you and to know that your Dad is doing fine. His presence on CATM was always a treat. I appreciate him for being a real and true friend to Freddie. He must be extremely proud of you. And rightly so. :)
I will say a prayer for your boyfriend Brandon and the family of his best friend. I am very sorry for their loss.
Welcome Deborah, I think you will enjoy it here,I know I have for a long time.:D
MaNdOSoNeFaN 10-28-2002, 07:47 PM again thank you all for welcoming me onto the board. :p and also thank you all for saying a prayer. My dad is proud of me, But I am also Proud of him, for being a good dad and a good person. I wish my dad would come on here more often. that would be fun:crazy: another tiring day of work. only 4 more days until the weekend. I would like to ask you all WHAT your FaV episode was?? okie dokie  Deborah
My favorite episode is the return of aunt connie. Unfortunately your Dad was not in this one, but it is my fave because I love al;l the impressions Freddie does in that one and seeing him dressed as a baby is a hoot.
Of the episodes with your dad I like the one if I were a rich man where your dad is in the van with chico doing an impression of a girl giggling to make ed think that Chico has gotten over losing his girlfriend.
MariposaLKB 10-28-2002, 08:58 PM Those are two wonderful episodes in which Freddie's talents (including his emotional range, which was greater than many people realized, IMHO) are showcased to their fullest.
I have sooo many favorites that it is very hard to pick just one. My absolute favorite has to be the episode in which Chico plans to leave Ed because his cousin wants him to come work in his used car agency. The emotion Freddie displayed just blows me away! And he looks sooo HOT in that denim suit at the end hee hee!
There are many individual scenes that really gets to me, too--like the one in the episode when Chico wants to install a bathtub in the garage, where he is pouting right after the building inspector has left. (When Luckymama and I watched that one together on one of her visits here, we both went "Awwwww..." at the same second LOL!) Another is the scene in the episode in which Tony Orlando appeared, when Maria the accountant kisses Chico--OMG! (That one is second only to the kiss he bestows upon Marilyn in "If I Were a Rich Man"!) And I always love scenes in which he gets angry, especially when it leads to him breaking into Spanish!
Deborah, my favorite show with your father in it is the one in which Chico joins the union and has to go on strike. I love his "socialist" tirade LOL--"Viva la huelga!"
hue_mee 10-28-2002, 09:29 PM Deborah there are so many favorite episodes! I love "Reverend Bemis's Altar Ego". I remember recording it the night it aired with my trusty tape recorder. Ah memories! My favorite one involving your father is "If I were a rich man". Mando talks to Louie in Spanish about all these tramatic events.. "Your house just burnt down. You owe 5,000 dollars in back taxes and your wife just ran away with the butcher". Ed asks Louie if he knew what Mando said. Louie bobs side to side and says..."No, but it sure was pretty". I love that scene! The whole episdoe really is priceless, especially when Chico gets himself some serious lip lock with Marilyn.
Luckymama58 10-28-2002, 09:59 PM I have a question for you. I really don't have a favorite, OMG there are 62 to choose from and they are all my favorites, cause my favorite outfit is still the one from the first Liz episode, and that is one of my favorites. I love Chico in that orange and white with the glasses. (Don't panic, don't panic, it's Super Mechanic! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM:eyes: ) The question is, what is your favorite? Have you seen the show? Does your father have the show on tape or do you? Just curious. BTW your father was a great friend to Freddie and his character was a great friend to Chico. I think my favorite one with your dad is "If I were a rich man" when your dad does the girlish giggle thing at the end, it cracks me up!
Deborah,
was your dad really doing that girlish giggle, and can he do the other two hge mentioned squauk like a parrot and cry like a baby??
Does he do any others
Moonlight Lady 10-28-2002, 10:30 PM I love the Mural episode. That is my favorite, I loved it when Chico and Rich Little were doing impressions of Reverend Bemis and Louie. My favorite line has to be when Ed answers the phone. "Ed Brown's Garage, Home of the Dirty Mural." :rotflmao:
Karen64 10-28-2002, 10:46 PM Hi, Deborah! Welcome to the hang-out!
I really don't know which episode is my favorite; they seem to change on a daily basis; I love them all!
Among my favorite scenes of your dad:
The one where everyone thinks Ed has died, and when Ed comes strolling in, Mando takes a look at him and falls flat on his back!
Another favorite moment is, like some of the others have said, at the end of "If I Were A Rich Man", where Chico and Mando are giggling in the van---I think Isaac is especially cute when they come out of the van and they both are cracking up! Your dad had the cutest expression in his face!
And then the classic,"can I use your restroom...NOW?!"
MaNdOSoNeFaN 10-29-2002, 05:28 AM i would have to say my favorite episode is when my dad is in the bathroom the whole time. not because my dad was in it, but it was the first episode i watched of chico and the man. That was a good episode. I can just hear the chico and the man music playing in my head....:happyface
my dad does soo many impressions, beyond! In a commercial my dad did was sooo funny... DAD IF YOU ARE READING THIS..DONT GET MAD!!! haha. he like dresses up like a girl and has other guys dressed up like a girl. i cant understand what he is saying because i dont know spanish. (i know i know im hispanic and dont know spanish:rolleyes: ) anyways, he all does that girly thingy. its just funny you have to be there. And to answer your question lucky mama,,, im pretty shure my dad has them on tape. i remember them being on tv land, and i woke him up so he could tape it. **im always up late** i bet you that you 2 had alot of fun watching the episodes. have you all noticed its mostly girls in here haha! thats all good. GIRLS just want to have fun!!
Deborah
Cheryl Harrell 10-29-2002, 06:37 AM Mando is sooo funny in the episode where he has to go to the bathroom. My hubby & I get quite a laugh outta that one! He is so cute tho in the one where Marilyn breaks up with Chico & the episode where he is a butcher. Yep, it's all girls here but your dad is more than welcome to join it! We could use a cute guy here! :)
MariposaLKB 10-29-2002, 08:42 AM Oh yes Deborah, Lucky and I have had some fabulous times hanging out together! She has come to my house three times and I have been to hers twice. My visits to her were both in order for us to ride together to NYC to see our dear friend Laz Viciedo, the rising young actor and comedian--the first time he was portraying Freddie himself! If you look back you will see that he was one of the few men to come to this board hee hee--but lately he seems to have disappeared...
As far as I know Lucky, Laz, JennyLee and I are the only ones on this board who have met face-to-face (we met JennyLee at that first show in NYC). Someday, maybe one of us who is located in the middle of country should throw a "reunion" for everyone LOL!
Cheryl Harrell 10-29-2002, 09:07 AM It would be so cool to have a Freddie fan reunion to go to! :) The best places to have a Freddie fan reunion at would be VA or Ohio & in July or August so I can go. If it's in VA it's my state & I can go. If it's in Ohio & in July or August we could plan our annual trip to my hubby Mikes sisters around it. WV might be doable too. Best time for me to go is July or Aug. Warm weather then & more able to travel & June we are tied up with our annual trip to stay with my folks at their condo in Nags Head. :) It can't conflict with any concerts of Arlos in VA, NC, MD, DC, WV tho. :) I wish we could all meet! I'd bring my Freddie scrapbook for everyone to see... :)
My favorite show was when Chico and Louie did Eds taxes.
Prince 10-29-2002, 11:30 PM That is one of my favorites too Anna. I still laugh through out the entire show when I watch it. Freddie and Scatman were so funny.
It was a classic.
I love the part when Chico yells what are you doing man and louie says he is covering the fingerprints with footprints and making it look worn
LOL
I love that!!!!
Cheryl Harrell 10-30-2002, 06:11 AM That one is such a riot! :)
one of my favorite episodes that centers on Ed is the piano bar episode.
He had a very fine voice and I have gotten to love the last song he sings on there Try to remember.
I think thaT is one great episodr where you can really see the love and respect Freddie and Jack had for one another.
Cheryl Harrell 10-30-2002, 07:50 PM That is a good episode & a cute pic. When I saw the pic it was so touching I had to get a hanky (sniff) :crying: They both had alot of love & respect for each other. So sad Chico is gone... :crying:
MaNdOSoNeFaN 10-31-2002, 12:13 AM sorry i havent been here for a day. been busy working n stuff. that would be kinda cool if there was a chico and the man reunion thing going on.
OK ALL I TALKED TO MY DAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he says hello to all of you. i told him how you guys thought he was soo cute back then and he said "WASSSS?!!!shoot, i still am" i started laughing. i was like "dad you are sooo silly" we didn't talk that long, he was at the tv station. dont know why. :talk:
want to hear something kind of creepy but sad... Louie(Scatman Crothers) died on my birthday a year after i was born. he died at 76. when i found that out i was like whoahhhhh.
Deborah.
Cheryl Harrell 10-31-2002, 07:19 AM Hi to your dad too! yep, he's still cutge. Hope his ebing at the tv station means he gets to be on tv. It'd be cool to see him on tv again. :)
Moonlight Lady 10-31-2002, 12:27 PM Hi to your dad too. :) it would be great to see him on TV again. He is still handsome.
:( Scatman Crothers was great, He was funny as Louie Wilson.
It's eerie that he died on your birthday the year after you were born. I was sad when he died too.
MariposaLKB 10-31-2002, 12:37 PM I had noticed that one of the cable networks was running "The Shining" several times in recent days, and last night I saw a bit of it in which Scatman was featured in a long close-up, explaining to the little boy how his psychic gift could make it possible for him to sense the hotel's dark history. I didn't know Scatman had been in that--it must have been one of the last things he did before his death. I plan to watch the whole thing today at noon--can't wait! (I had never seen much of the original with Jack Nicholson, but I did see most of the recent Sci Fi Channel miniseries.)
Deborah, I have not had the good fortune to correspond with or speak directly to your dad like some of the others here, but I would love to have you tell him I said "Hello" too! My real name is Lori and you could tell him that Luckymama and I are close friends, since he would know who she is.

Hi Deborah, that's my sister's name too. Anyway, I'm Katie. My halloween was okay, I started out watching Halloween and fell asleep. My favorite movie? Crooklyn, Out of Towners and The Odd Couple are some of my favorites. Also, Saturday Night Fever. For fun, I like to play The Sims + all the expansions and most recently, The Sims Online Play Test, walk, shop even though that gets me in trouble, walk, visit with friends or relatives. I live in Upstate, NY, where's it in the mid 30's and we're supposed to get snow. I work for NYS senate services, we update, delete and add voters into the different senate districts. It's extremely slow now. It'll pick up in January. I guess that's about it. I hope your niece has a great birthday. I have a niece too and 4 nephews.

 Hi, I'm Karen! I was named after 2 of the kids on the original Mickey Mouse Show (Karen and Annette). I'm an RN working as an MDS Coordinator in a nursing home (lots of assessments and never ending paper-work!)
I'm married and have 2 kids.
It's hard to think of a favorite movie; I love so many of them, but I guess my all time favorite is Back To The Future. I also LOVE Steve Martin!
Here in Kansas it's 36 degrees and raining (yuk!) I'm getting ready to get my flannel PJs on, get a beer, and sit by the fireplace! :)
In my spare time, I like to draw, play the SIMs, tease my 2 cats , and hang out on the Freddie sites.
hue_mee 11-02-2002, 07:30 PM Hello Deborah! :D
It has been great emailing with you. As you know I'm from Wisconsin. I love to draw, design wallpapers using Paint Shop Pro. (Thanks Luckymama and Dani!). I love to write fiction. Your dad can vouch on that, on count that he has read my story I sent him a while back. (Hee hee.... Sits here blushing).
I have made so many friends here that love the show as well as members of the cast. We all love Chico as well as Mando. As you may see also we have several other interests too. Great seeing you here Deborah!
Cheryl Harrell 11-03-2002, 08:35 AM I was born just in time for the 60's & am most definitely a 60's & 70's person. I lived with my parents all my life until I got married to Mike in 1986.
I'd loved the Monkees in the 60's & early 70's but after they broke up didn't hear anymore on them. I became a fan of John Travolta when WELCOME BACK KOTTER FIRST came on tv & also became a fan of Shaun Cassidy when the HARDY BOYS first came out on tv. In 1977 re-runs of the Monkees came on a tv station in another part of the state which we could get even tho it was kinda fuzzy. I watched them got hooked & have been a huge Monkees fan ever since. I got to meet Peter Tork of the Monkees 3 or so times, Mikcy Dolenz of the Monkees once, & Mike Nesmith of the Monkees once.
I became a fan of singer Tommy James of the 60's group Tommy James & the Shondells in the late 70's or early 80's when he put out his hit song 3 TIMES IN LOVE. I had remembered his 60's songs & liked them. This one hooked me on to him & I became collecting on him as well.
I met my hubby Mike in 1983. He was a blind date a friend set me up on. The rest is history for we got married in 1986.
In 1988 I saw the video of ALICES RESTAURANT in a BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO store & decided to rent it as I remembered & liked the song & was curious about it. Pretty soon I wound up becoming an Arlo Guthrie fan, In 1989 Arlo did 3 shows here in VA & I went to a all the of them. I got to meet him after all 3 shows of his I went to & that's how my hubby & I became friends with him. I not only collect everything on him but go to any shows he does in my state & other nearby states & always get to meet him at his shows & he's been a real friend to myself & my hubby.
In 1994 my hubby Mike was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes & retinopathy (Bleeding retinas in his eyes) & legal blindness caused by it. He is on insulin needles & diabetes pills. In 1998 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes & am not only on pills for it but also on pills for the retinopathy it has caused in my feet. I sued to work but got laid off from my job in 1992 & am now taking care of hubby & being a housewife.
Among my other interests are: I also play piano (took lessons off & on from 1st -10th grades), organ (taught myself to play but took lessons a couple of summers in college), guitar (took lessons in high school), autoharp (taught myself to play by ear) & mountain dulcimer (lap dulcimer-- taught myself to play by ear). I also love to watch old classic tv shows from the 50's/60's/70's like they show on TVLAND. I love everything from THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW to MY 3 SONS to LEAVE IT TO BEAVER to THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES to THE BRADY BUNCH to DICK VAN DYKE SHOW to EMERGENCY to CHICO & THE MAN to half a million other good shows like that. TVLAND is my favorite channel! I enjoy rock & roll oldies (I'm an oldies/60's/70's music freak), folk music, some country music (mainly the older stuff & alternative stuff), with a little blues, old Motown soul, gospel, & bluegrass added in for fun. I also enjoy listening to my police scanner & sometimes listening to my shortwave radio. CB radio was another big interest of mine in the 70's. Don't talk on it much these days but still enjoy hearing CB'ers on the radio. I also enjoy the Internet as well. I also find lighthouses to be pretty & interesting. Whenever we go to the Nags Head, NC area I love to go view the lighthouses there! Church & our diabetes also add to my other interests keeping me busy.
My latest interest or rather obsession is the 1970's sitcom tv show CHICO & THE MAN & it's start the late Freddie Prinze.
I was lucky to be in high school when CHICO & THE MAN was on tv. I watched the show from he very first episode onwards. Even tho I watched CATM back in the 70's I am a newer fan. I saw the very first episode of CATM cuz I left the tv on NBC after SANFORD & SON that nite. I watched it & liked it & watched all the time after that. I was a teenager at the time (I'm in my 40's now). I loved watching the show but wasn't in love with Freddie or anything. I never even noticed he was cute. I now wonder how I missed that LOL! I remember when Freddie died. I came to school that day & my friend said she'd found out he died & had cried. I think I was like Huh? He died? He's gotta be alive cuz he's on CHICO & THE MAN. She was like no he commited suicde & told me what happened. I couldn't believe it a kid several yrs older than me comitting suicde & wondered why he'd do it. I later read that his wife was divorcing him & it hurt him so bad that he couldn't go on anymore & it caused him to commit suicide. The summer after he died re-runs of CATM came on tv in the daytime around noon & while off from school for the summer, I would watch the show & enjoyed the re-runs. I watched the Raul episodes when the show started back up on primetime & tho I still enjoyed the show, it wasn't the same without Freddie. After the show was taken off the tv & hoopla over Freddies death, I didn't hear anything else about him or the show.
Altho I liked the future episodes of CHICO it's just wasn't the same after he was gone. The classic CHICO episodes were the ones with Freddie. I think after he passed on they should've renamed the show ED BROWNS GARAGE instead to reflect that CHICO was no longer on there. I never heard about him or the show anymore until Freddie Jr. came out & they said he was Freddie SR's son & I was like Wow, I didn't know he had a son who acted.
In Jan 2001 TVLAND put CHICO & THE MAN back on TV. They started out with a marathon one weekend. I was glad to find out it was coming back on as it was one of the good old shows I loved. I watched some of the marathon & when CHICO & THE MAN came back on I started watching it. After awhile I got more into it & started getting into CHICO & THE MAN & Freddie Prinze. I started out watching it at Midnight & then soon got into watching at 8:30 am too! When they moved it to 5 am I faithfully watched it then too. Soon I became a big fan of Freddie Prinze & now collect some stuff on him too! I was very upset when they took CATM off TVLAND. & When they had moved it to 5 am I made up a petition on the Internet to move it to a better time slot. Now that the show's been taken off the air, the petition is now a save our show petition. I used to get TVLAND on our big satellite dish but now I can't get them anymore cuz they started scrambling their signal & in order to still get it & any other paid channels I need to get a descrambler for it. I can't seem to find one for it cheap enough just yet. The satellite didn't have a descrambler with it cuz it was my late Aunt & Uncles satellite & my cousin let me have it so we'd have dish & he had to use their descrambler on his dish cuz his wasn't working anymore. After getting into Freddie Prinze, I also wound up getting into Mando too.
My hubby understands my being a fan of stars & collecting on them etc & thinking they're cute. He's a big Elvis fan & also a fan of other stars & collects on them too. So anyway that's my life story in a nutshell I guess...
