This is the one hundred and second post on this thread, so here's a picture of Michigan State Route 102 - also known as Eight Mile Road, Detroit's northern boundary. Eight Mile Road is not named for its length but for how far north it is of downtown Detroit. When the city's population expanded by leaps and bounds as a result of the rise of the auto industry in the early twentieth century, Detroit began annexing land to its immediate north, and the city's land area grew so much to accommodate the growing population that each successive boundary road was named to give residents an idea of how far they were from downtown. Though Detroit - and Wayne County, Michigan - stop at Eight Mile Road, the boundary roads continue into the suburbs and the country up to 37 Mile Road.

I know exactly where that is although I've never noticed it. My Pastosa used to be across the street. It closed a long time ago. I don't know what's there now.

It's similar to my old neighborhood in Sheepshead Bay. There's a triangle dedicated to one of our most famous residents, Vince Lombardi. 99% of the people who live there don't know it's there though.
