How I Met Your Mother's finale is one of the most controversial in television history, but why did so many people hate it?


A lot of people hated it because they wanted the happy ending, they prefered a non realistic ending to a very realistic one.

A very telling thing about the show is that when ted starts to tell his kids about how he met their mother, the first person he mentions and speaks about more than anyone is robin! the show offered a kinda realistic story of how the world doesn't always give us what we wanted or expected and how death and circumstance can change things, but theres still hope...

People never understood why they built up the robin and barney relationship, just to throw it away, but there were always signs there that those 2 would never stay together. i've dated girls for years and was convinced we'd stay together and get married.. just to look back now and it ended and i've not spoken to them for years.

The shows ending was very realistic, it just wasn't "nice"... it kinda reminds me of the wonder years. that also had a realistic ending when people couldn't see that winnie and kevin were never meant to be together.
