Late 1979 (https://www.google.com/search?q=WTBS&sca_esv=45c41d3e543101a5&udm=36&sxsrf=AHTn8zqbqa_iWEL1SKBoCQ0WyUdbRqmBTw%3A1742330626259&source=lnt&tbs=bkt%3As%2Ccdr%3A1%2Ccd_min%3A1%2F1%2F1979%2Ccd_max%3A12%2F31%2F1979&tbm=), WTCG (https://www.google.com/search?q=WTCG&sca_esv=45c41d3e543101a5&udm=36&sxsrf=AHTn8zpZe6AD2lHVk5P7WpmQksdO-R7-5w%3A1742330980534&source=lnt&tbs=bkt%3As%2Ccdr%3A1%2Ccd_min%3A1%2F1%2F1979%2Ccd_max%3A12%2F31%2F1979&tbm=) (Turner Communications Group) changed to (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TBS_(American_TV_channel)#Initial_change_to_WTBS) WTBS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9JxJ61iFVc) (Turner Broadcasting System). Ted Turner always wanted it to be WTBS, he said because TBS sounded like CBS, but he had to wait until he could buy a new transmitter for the Notre Dame station with the TBS calls.

The announcement of the change by "Brother Gold" (I think a guy named Jessie in the sales dept) is hilarious. The stuff they did back then was totally off the wall.
