So I've been on kind of a mission to see how many of the sitcoms I own on dvd are actually the original broadcast edits, and I already know that most major tv stations cut parts of episodes out to make time for more commercials, and the most recent show I was curious to test this with was Home Improvement. I already knew that Family Matters, Full House, Roseanne, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Everybody Loves Raymond, Diff'rent Strokes and Silver Spoons cut out bits of episodes for syndication, and that I own the original broadcast edits, but I was wondering about Home Improvement. I had compared the episodes played on Laff with my dvd's, and I didn't notice anything was different. I was worried that maybe I didn't in fact own the unedited episodes, until finally I caught it on CMT, and sure enough, parts that were on the DVD and on Laf were not present on the CMT airings. So does Laff air all of it's shows in their original broadcast form, or is it just this one. I was kind of surprised, since even Antenna TV airs syndicated versions of it's shows, as I said I had previously tested Diff'rent Strokes and Silver Spoons on Antenna TV and compared them to my dvd's, and they indeed had parts cut out on the Antenna TV edits that were present on the DVD's. I also had tested Home Improvement on UP TV and also didn't notice any difference between those edits and the DVD versions. Also, I had tried testing "According to Jim" on Laff and I didn't notice anything missing, but since the episode lengths for Jim are only 20-21 minutes, I figured that they didn't need to edit for syndication since the episodes were already shorter in length.

I don't know about LAFF, but I do know that WGN shows the episodes of Tim Allen's other show named Last Man Standing in their entirety.

I was comparing the Laff airings of Home Improvement with my DVD versions and noticed that nothing was different between them, and that Laff had left certain scenes in that were cut out in the CMT airings. It also seems that their commercials are shorter compared to other networks, so this definitely could be. It just seemed unlikely since even Antenna TV cuts parts out of episodes to make more time for commercials. I didn't bother comparing the Laff airings of According to Jim with the DVD versions since the lengths of that show are only about 20-21 minutes, so there would be no need to cut it down.

I can think of the episode "Jill and her Sisters" (original air date 11/12/1996), and I could have sworn I had heard Beano (the anti-gas product) mentioned at the beginning nearly 26 years ago. I saw it on LAFF the other day and didn't hear it.
