My favorite cartoon short adaptation of a fairy tale is "Red Hot Riding Hood" with "Little Red Riding Rabbit" as a close second.

Because the below is a Terrytoon, not much is discussed, but….

“A Hare-Breadth Finish”, a wild telling of the Tortoise & Hare, I enjoyed while seeing it around 1967-68 on an indie TV station in Miami. I went about 40 years before seeing it again online. I was a member of BCDB.com and someone told me it was told in flashback form, which I didn’t know. Certain frumpy tuba music played whenever the tortoise was shown, and was he slow!
