I had asked this question before and I got no response. I'll try again. In the movie Can you hear the laughter? Freddie was smoking pot in his bedroom. Nat told Freddie - Hey don't light up here! Freddie said oh it's okay! His mother was in the next room (maybe). I may be old fashioned but, I would never let my son smoke pot in my house. I had friends who their mother's would let them smoke pot in their house. I just would feel that my child has to give me some respect. His mom let him smoke pot in the house?

I smoked in my house one time and it was a major disaster. See i came up with this bright idea to stand in front of my door outside and smoke the joint and blow the smoke outside well i guess the wind blew the smoke back into my room and it was spreading throughout the basement my eyes nearly popped out of there sockets when i was finished smoking and went back inside to see a big cloud of smoke everywhere. I never did that again. I never got caught either.

hey jennylee,
in the movie "can you hear the laughter", they did smoke in his room. now in the movie his girlfriends name was rosie or rosa something like that but in the book that name rosie was not mentioned but there was a lot of mentioning of this name "ann". she stayed all night from time to time with freddie.

OK I'm not sure if this is even relevent but I will try....That movie was missing alot of reality to say the least...Maria's book rocks I am reading it now...she has alot to say she wasn't crazy about CATHY it's not with a k in the book. She was afraid Freddie would get hurt...But anyway...I dated a guy in the early 80's who was a single child his mom adored him Dad was either sleeping or working. ANYHOW...he would have parties in his room sometines 10-15 people jammed in there...and on holidays maye over 50 filled the house. They smoked pot in there did drugs it was awful...We were engaged for about a year when I called it off. He was a spoiled drug addict and he did get abusive...I'm not saying Freddie was anyof that ALL I am trying to conveey is that his mother had NO idea about the drugs and pot....only that he drank alot with his friends...She was in the next room all night...I would come out of the room to go to the bathroom and she'd say are you kids having fun all smiles thinking her good boy was having a great time...I'd just look at her and say ya know what..I'm not I guess they are. And I was told by himduring a fight once that even his mother said I should loosen up and that maybe I wasn't the girl for him. When I broke off the engagement I went to see his Mom told her I really loved him wanted to marry him but he was too messed up. I told her he had a drinking and drug problem that was going on right in her house. And if she got him help I would come back. SHe never got him help he has been in 3 comas and she still refuses to see that he has a problem. It's scarey...Freddies Mom should have been told by cathy that there was a problem...If she was so caring and dutiful wife then. me that's the first place I would have gone...to his family.

Dreamer - That was a very interesting story. I also had friends who would smoke pot in their bedrooms. C'mon - How could their Moms or Dads not smell it? Alot of these friends have died or continued smoking pot & doing drugs. They've never stopped..... Anyway, Maybe Cathy/Kathy thought his mother "knew" seeing he did it at home when he was younger. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif
