Next to Ebony Magazine and Jet Magazine Essence Magazine is one of the top magazines. In 1992 Essence Magazine marketed subscriptions through commercials and these commercials talked about what to experience in each issue of Essence and if you ordered through the commercial subscribers got a special discount. I don't know if Essence Magazine still has commercials today but I used to read Essence Magazine for their music reviews to learn about the newest music releases in the 90's
