Take a fun look back at how Gilligan's Island became Gilligan's Planet the animated cartoon series on CBS back in 1982 on Saturday mornings plus imagine what a movie might look like and remember Bob Denver's other Saturday morning space series, Far Out Space Nuts.

Gilligan's Planet featured the voices of the original Gilligan's Island stars such as Bob Denver, Alan Hale Jr. as the Skipper, Natalie Schafer as Mrs. Howell, Jim Backus and Mr. Howell, Russell Johnson as the Professor, and Dawn Wells as both the now blond haired Ginger and as her character Mary Ann.

Instead of a monkey or ape, on this cartoon series Gilligan found a pet sidekick named Bumper who was a reptilian alien.

Imagining Gilligan's Planet as a movie there would likely be some changes such as giving the Professor a wrecked spaceship to work with and maybe giving the castaways some fun tech gadgets such as space costumes that morph into whatever might be needed.

Also, I look at where the story of Gilligan's Planet takes a different route from the live action series where the last we had seen the castaways they had been rescued and had turned the island into a resort in the last TV movie guest starring the Harlem Globetrotters.
