Some families are built on a social ladder. There’s the top of said ladder, the de facto leader, someone the family listens to despite maybe questionable intentions or lack of foresight. And on the other end of the spectrum, or bottom of that ladder, is the one that everyone either ignores or bashes, deserved or not. Someone who is maybe even treated as less than human. For American Dad’s Smith family, that’s Klaus, their pet goldfish. I use the term pet loosely. You’d think for a goldfish, there wouldn’t be much to unpack, but you would be WRONG. Through the laughter, the tears, the wholesome and the dark moments, I don’t think ANYBODY could have predicted this character’s trajectory. So join me as we dive into a deeper look at A Fish Called Klaus.
