View Full Version : Charlotte Rae in "The Worst Witch!"
JethroSimpson 10-19-2002, 07:15 AM I was looking in a shop the other day and I saw a video of an a British TV 6 part show from the 80's "The Worst witch, I had a look and it co starred Charlotte Rae.
It was in a sale so I bought it, I had a quick look at it yesterday and she's actually doing an English accent! Her hair is also grey.
It was made in 1987 so it must have been just after she quit FOL. I took a few pictures to show just so you could see what she looked like, but the quality isn't great.

JethroSimpson 10-19-2002, 07:23 AM And this is the video case.
I'll try and take some more when I watch it all the way through if anyone wants me to.
MandieR1980 10-19-2002, 07:39 AM The Disney Channel usually plays it around Halloween time, I've seen it a million times and I usually watch it every year.
MrsGarrettRocksMySocks 10-19-2002, 12:15 PM I have it, except in a different case. I've had it for about two years. She's awesome. She's also got pink hair when she plays Aggie. It's pink and purple.I have those pictures on my computer at home, but, now I'm on my grandma's computer. Char's pretty good in that movie. Did you catch the Donna scene? I mean, like, she's talkign to Mildred, right after she got off the phone with her niece "Donna" and she puts her hands on Mildred's shoulders? It reminded me of "Mrs. Garrett" in FOL....haha...
Kay Scarpetta 10-19-2002, 12:54 PM That doesn't even look like her.....wow

It looks more like her when you actually watch the movie. I haven't seen it on the Disney channel for a couple years. I tried to catch it on last year, cause I had seen some of it before on Disney and I thought it would be cool to see if they cut anything out of it.
Anyways...I'm gonna e-mail them I think and see if they're going to air it.
FOL85NatandMrsGRock 10-19-2002, 04:09 PM I have that movie!!! I find it funny becuase tim curry is in it (i think he's funny) and also, the girl who plays mildred (faruza bulk... dunno how to spell it) is the girl in the movie the craft, nancy, the phsyco one! hahahaha! she was also in water boy, she looks like her phsyco self in waterboy! JethroSimpson 10-20-2002, 07:19 AM I didn't realise it had been shown in America because I know it hasn't been shown over here since the 80's.

'80sSitcoms 10-28-2017, 03:26 PM To correct the original poster it was 1986, not 1987---in fact, it debuted on Halloween, October 31st 1986!
Now, on to what I came here to say: HOW HAVE I NEVER SEEN THIS???
Well, after years of having known of it, I am rectifying that now by watching it on YouTube as I'm writing this post! lol...Charlotte Rae not only has 2nd billing as the Ms. Cackle the headmistress of the witch academy (take that, Mr. Parker!), she plays a dual role as her evil sister witch, and even a "3rd role" as a visualized realization of their mother, a former headmistress, in a portrait in the school! AND, Ms. Rae sings!!
It also stars Diana Rigg, Fairuza Balk, and Tim Curry, whom I love from, respectfully, The Great Muppet Caper, Return to Oz, and, well, anything I've seen Tim Curry in, lol.
This has that wonderfully nostalgic feel of Halloween in the 1980s (even though it takes place at a witch academy in England, lol), and I'm sorry I never got to see it back then, but I am enjoying it immensely on this Halloween weekend Saturday! :D
