FETV (Family Entertainment Television), home to beloved and timeless television series and movies carried across cable, satellite, and virtual platforms, announced today that starting February 1st, the network will begin airing original, uncut versions of most TV series and movies on the network, becoming the only network in the classic TV genre to currently do so.

"For decades, TV series in the classic genre have been aired in a truncated fashion on broadcast and cable outlets," said Adam Sumrall, Executive Vice President of FETV and FMC. "Starting in February, FETV will move in an exciting new direction by re-introducing the original, uncut episodes to our viewers. Each day, all of us at FETV think about how to make the viewer experience better, and this is an important step in enhancing that experience."

Launched in 2013, FETV is home to a 24-hour schedule of beloved and timeless television series and movies carried across cable, satellite and virtual platforms reaching 50 million homes. FETV's current lineup features popular television series such as Emergency!, Leave It to Beaver, Perry Mason, and Adam-12. According to Nielsen, FETV's average audience in Primetime (7p-12a ET) ranks among the top 40 ad-supported cable networks.

They would either need to cut down on the ads (doubt that), or go off-the-clock. The could follow the current Paramount model and do some confusing array varying between 35 and 39 minutes or around that, or be more logical and devote 40 minutes to each half hour show. Then there would be three half hours shows per two hour block, or one hour-long show and one half hour show per two hours.

Such a setup would actually save them money, since they would need fewer shows.

I think this is great news! Its nice to have a retro tv channel that could air the shows unedited and without credit crunches.

MeTV does it only with the nighttime airing of Perry Mason and its very awkward and dumb. Since it pushes all the shows afterwards to air 5 mins later. Thus making the 4:05 am show Barnaby Jones airs either heavily edited or with less commercials since the channel lineup resets back to hour by hour at 5am.

Anyway, FETV always had the potential to match/even surpass MeTV. It has a huge availability across the country. They just need to add more shows and stop following the trends that many retro channels do such as favoring certain shows (cut down on Perry please) and the Western snoozefest.

They re sitting just below CoziTV at #52. Curious to see if this stunt pulls them ahead and into the top 50th.

Well, now that the schedule is out, I see they're doing the weird, Paramount-style off-the-clock programming.

I guess that means they won't be airing Bewitched uncut for now, even though the complete series is on DVD and it will be released on Blu-ray in February. Maybe they will receive the new prints in the future.

It looks like they still have edited Barney Miller episodes.

I appreciate the effort FETV is putting in to push the envelope for retro television and being the first channel to air many of these tv shows in its entirety since it the day these shows originally aired.

Having said that, this schedule is terrible. The announcement made it sound bigger than it really is. My Three Sons was reported to air last year but I guess they needed a new show to spearhead the upcoming channel changes, so it got delayed until Feb. So we knew that was always coming.

The rest of the schedule is just the same. The primetime lineup specially has been badly hit. We no longer get Dragnet or Adam-12 at night and you can only see them on weekday mornings. Meanwhile Perry Mason still gets 4 episodes.

What I feared this channel will do has come true. They keep favoring certain shows and a reluctance to change the lineup. Its going down a path like MeTV.

Antenna TV could really learn from this.

THESE SHOWS ORIGINALLY AIRED IN HALF-HOUR AND ONE HOUR BLOCKS ON NETWORK
TELEVISION. WHY NOT NOW? TV has changed dramatically since the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. When only three broadcast networks ruled the airwaves, massive amounts of viewers tuned in each night to see their favorite programs, many of which carried a title sponsor. Because of these title sponsors, there was very little
commercial time. Fast forward to today, where there are thousands of channels, audiences have split between multiple outlets, and TV series no longer carry title sponsors. As a result, commercial time
has grown in these programs.

Translation: We need to air more ads.

Pretty much. I don't think there exist a channel that chooses to air less ads in order to make time for the full unedited tv episodes.

I wonder if FeTV will show all of the My 3 Sons episodes uncut. They haven’t been shown uncut with the original music since 2000 when Tv Land showed them. Not even on DVD.

For a scripted rerun to be shown uncut,

(1) the duration has to be expanded, due to extra commercial time;
(2) commercials will have to be at THEIR original duration (ain’t gonna happen);
(3) it will do what ION did when rerunning Green Acres around 2006-7-ish: speed up the audio & video, to where it was painful to sit thru, especially a dialogue-driven sitcom like GA! At least the extra commercials fit.

It will be interesting to see how long this format last. Most of the shows listed are available on free streaming services with far less commercials and shown uncut.
