In the episode where Fred tried very hard to marry Lamont to that girl with $10000 dowry, was wondering how much of that money Fred thought he would get. Probably nothing if Lamont decide to marry that girl and keep the money between themselves :D

One part of that ep I cannot figure out.
Right before something was said to have Betty Jean change her mind: was it assumed that Lamont proposed to her? They were all ready to pack for a marriage and honeymoon, despite the fact Lamont wanted nothing to do with her.
One would think that Lamont tipped Betty Jean off about Fred’s ulterior motive—but she seemed to play it legit.
Was something cut in dialogue from the original to add commercial time, rendering that scene nonsensical?
Richard Pryor wrote that episode, and likely, although I am not a fan of his stand-up at all, i would think he’d be quite thorough with the plot.
Can somebody clear it up? Otherwise it was a classic episode.
“What can we feed her?” “How about a whale?” That would never fly today.

That is a good question and don't think we will ever know since there was no scene that showed Lamont proposing to that girl. Fred left in the morning to show his guests the town, and when they came back in the evening, Lamont had suite case in his hand and ready to leave for St. Louis. And I think it was bride to be (BettyJean) that got the short end of stick in that scenario.
But that episode had one of the funniest line where Fred ask Lamont to take BettyJean shopping with him and get some burritos on the way back. BettyJean said she love mexican food and asked Lamont if they are going to see any Mexicans. And Lamont said: "The route I'm taking that is all we're going to see" :D
