I got an album by a singer named Brenda Russell and she debuted in the 70's and she is still an amazing singer who releases albums today. She was best known for the ballad Piano In The Dark and made Get Here a hit before Oleta Adams covered it in 1990. Do you remember Brenda Russell?

To be honest I didn't even know who Brenda Russell was until I was listening to my copy of Mary J. Blige's No More Drama album and heard a song called Flying Away which sampled Brenda Russell's God Bless You and I decided to learn more about her. To my surprise Brenda reminds me of Natalie Cole and her voice is full of talent. In fact one of her songs became a hit for actress Cheryl Ladd called Think It Over and Cheryl's version of Think It Over became the title track to her debut album of the same name

I never knew why Piano In The Dark became a hit song for Brenda Russell but it seemed to be her most well-known hit. But I discovered another hit that Brenda had called Le Restaurant which featured the late David Sanborn on saxophone and it was a hit. But it seems that her first single A Little Bit More Love is sampled by artists like Thalia and Ariana Grande in their songs. Brenda Russell if you compare her to other singers the singers she does sound like is Minnie Riperton and Natalie Cole and Brenda continues to release more albums today

I never knew how in the world Brenda Russell became famous? Because when she first came out in the 70's she was competing with Natalie Cole and I think Brenda Russell was better than Natalie Cole and she does have a great voice but her popularity didn't take off until the 80's when Piano In The Dark debuted in 1988 and Brenda could've competed with Angela Winbush and Regina Belle but it was her song God Bless You that got me to learn about Brenda Russell and I thought she was so amazing especially when she sings Get Here
