We're a few days away from Christmas and we thought it would be appropriate and timely to look at commercials for the must have gift of 1989, an item celebrating its 35th birthday this year--the Nintendo GameBoy.

In my life I have never ever owned the very first Nintendo Gameboy but my first Nintendo Gameboy was the Gameboy Advance but when Nintendo released the Gameboy Nintendo took a smart step because it was essentially the very first Nintendo system that was portable and judging by the commercials it had the Gameboy was gonna be a big seller but some people were totally disappointed with Nintendo's Gameboy. For one thing you couldn't hardly play the games because the display was hard to see and the other thing was that there was no reset button anywhere on the Gameboy. But when the Gameboy Color came out Nintendo listened to fans and improved it by making it in color with a screen that was easy to see when you played Gameboy Color games. And I can say Nintendo made a big seller out of Gameboy Color and as you watch Gameboy Color commercials you can see all the neat stuff they made for it such as Gameboy Camera. But when Gameboy Advance came out Nintendo had really planned to strike it rich because not only could Gameboy Advance play Gameboy Color games but also it's own Gameboy Advance games and it also had winning commercials. I remember when the Gameboy Advance came out and I didn't even know I was gonna get one until I heard my Dad calling Toys "R" Us to see if they had got them in which they did and Dad left for Toys "R" Us in the morning and then my mother and I were eating breakfast when my father called me and asked what color of Gameboy Advance I wanted and I said purple and Dad was talking to Mom and they were talking a lot and then he returned home an hour later and I heard him say to Mom "Hawkee's gonna be so excited when she recieves her surprise" and Dad came into my room and gave me two bags and one bag was games and the other bag had my Gameboy Advance and travel bag and everything else and so I was so happy that my parents had gotten me a secret surprise. Today I still have that Gameboy Advance but I gave it to my mom when I got a Nintendo DS so she now has her own Gameboy Advance. But my first games were Pokemon Crystal and a racing game. But I can say that when the Gameboy came out it sure had of promotion through commercials and that made Nintendo happy with the success it brought them
