I remember an interview with James Komack where he said Freddie would invite people over to the apartment to watch a video of the Zapruder film with JFK getting his head shot off. Komack said Freddie would slow the tape down at the instant Kennedy's head got blown off and say, "wow -- look at that"

Komack then told the interviewer that Hollywood was not responsible for what happened to Freddie. He said that whatever was inside Freddie that drove him to suicide was always there...

What was inside Freddie was all the drugs and qualuddes + alcohol. Komack should've seen that something wasn't right with Freddie. He should've talked to his mother about Freddie. Alot of people saw him that way amd did nothing! As producer he should have fired Freddie for coming to work so high! Instead he bought in Della hoping nobody would notice how thin Freddie had become. Again It was the almighty dollar! If my son was looking at JFK's head being blown off in slow motion I would want SOMEBODY to tell me!

Croiter, where do you get your info on Freddie?

I think so many people in the Hollywood entertainment industry experimented or recreated with drugs and probably felt that it was ok for Freddie to do what he was doing. After all, if they pointed the finger at him they would have to point it at themselves, not a comfortable thing. Even though rehab was available back then, I doubt it was as acceptable to admit you have a problem as it seems almost fashionable to do today. So many stars have died from the affects of drugs. Drug users think they are in control of their addiction, and other addicts are not going to argue with them. I still think many of those around Freddie (in the business) were struggling with their own addictions and couldn't truly assess the danger Freddie was in. I'm sure more than a few probably partied with him, and remember, many of the drugs he took, were prescribed. So they probably thought his doctor knew what was going on and was handling the situation. Hindsight is 20-20.

Freddie's mother and Cathy sued his doctor for over-prescribing quaaludes for him. There was a huge settlement and the doctor had his liscense suspended.. Freddies mother said she did not know he was on drugs til it was too late...How sad... The world lost a great entertainer at a very young age because people were afraid to tell him NO!!

I feel his wife should've gotten him help instead of divorcing him. Maybe if he had gotten help he would still be here today.

It really sucks you figure a guy like Darryl Strawberry can **** himself up on coke and god knows whatever else for so long would be dead after his fifty million chances and Freddie does drugs for a short time and doesnt even get a second chance.

Well If you want to talk about Daryl Strawberry I happen to be a big fan of his & it hurts me to see him that way. I even bought my son a Yankee Daryl Strawberry t-shirt because I believe that he will get better. I'll never give up hope on Daryl!

did you all know his doctor took his gun away from a few days prior to him shooting himself. Freddie asked for it back and the jerk gave it back to him. If he didnt give it back freddie might be here today.

Maybe we could hunt this dr. down and shoot him for giving Freddie his gun back...He could have at least took the bullets!!!!!

It's fun to entertain those types of thoughts...but it's not going to bring Freddie back. I'm sure that doctor has been paid back 7 times over for the choices he made. If he had any kind of conscience...he's still living with it to this day. Let God take care of him...He'll do it right.

If anyone has ever seen the movie Frequencey have you ever wished you could get ahold of Freddie somehow before he did it and try and stop his death.

I saw the move "Frequency", too- By the way, Freddie loved HAM radios. WOW-wouldn't it be weird to contact him and try to stop his self-destruction? I wonder what he would think if he had another day on earth? If he could come back right now? Wouldn't he be proud of his son?... Does he really know how many people love and miss him, and what a fool he was for throwing his life away? The drugs and all the other stuff clouded his vision-its so sad. I'm sorry for being so negative. I suppose it's therapeutic to talk about our feelings and fantasize about the "what ifs"........

That's cool he was a HAM operator. I'd love to do that but have no idea how to do morse code. I bet he loved shortwave radio too. That's fun too!

This is soooo "Twilight Zone"! My husband just got his ham radio license a few weeks ago! BTW, for a license like his you don't need Morse code.

I've gotta get him to explain some stuff to me--I feel a story idea coming on http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif!

I bet he got a Technicians License or a Novice License. I like to listen to HAMS on my shortwave radio & Police radio. I think the lower class licenses don't requite morse code anymore. I wonder what grade HAM liscence Chico-Freddie had?

It's a technician's license. Funny thing is, he was all hot to get it, and now he never uses it--never even listens in! Can anyone who has "the book" tell us what kind of a license Freddie had?

I'll be glad to, maraposa, when I get my book. My hubby had his license when he was in high school and college. It was a big thing back then, before CB's got big. He had a CB, too. I had one high school myself. My kids didn't know what CB's were when they were introduced on the CATM show. I had to explain that it was the chat room of the 70's! We use to stay up all night talking to each other on it. See, nothing has changed for me. HA HA

I think it is really kool to think of all the "what if's". It is theraputic. We all have unanswered questions. If we sit around and think of all the negativity surrounding Freddie then this would become a depressing place to visit. The "what if's" challenge us to open up and stretch our minds a bit.
"What if"...Freddie hadn't done what he did. "What if" he had gotten the help he needed. Who knows...maybe he would have gone on to help others in deperate need like himself....Hmmmmm...The Freddie Prinze D.A.R.E. Program. Sounds like a winner to me.
I think it would be too kool if his family had started a scolorship fund to help keep talented young kids off drugs and in school. Maybe they could go on to become aspiring actors or comedians.
I would like to think that a program such as that might have kept Freddie on the right track....serch the mind for all the "what if's"!!!

I was into the CB thing in the 70's & so was a friend of mine. We'd talk all hours of the ntie on it. My hubby & I still have one but I don't use it much anymore as there aren't many folks talking on it & the car antenna for it broke. It is neat tho & that episode brought back many memories for me.
