I remember hearing that Freddie did an HBO special that, at the time, was considered quite racy for something that "Chico" would do. He made jokes about old people and sex and I think he was one of several comics on the show.

Does anyone know about this?

No, HBO was around in the seventies. I remember it as early as 1976, when one family on the whole block had cable. They also had a black box on top of the TV that was called Home Box Office (not HBO at the time) and we could watch movies like American Graffiti and Easy Rider.

I'm pretty certain that Freddie was involved in an HBO special -- at the time called Home Box Office. And I remember this because the kids at school said his act was nothing like the Chico on TV...

Anybody out there remember?

Home Box Office (HBO) launched in December 1975 but I doubt it was available in that many areas when it first started. It began as a local pay-television station in Wilkes-Barre, PA on November 8, 1972. It then went national in December 1975.

Doesn't HBO have a web site? If no one else looks it up I will.

Well I remember Home box office but, I don't recall Freddie doing an HBO special.... The average person didn't own HBO until much later.

I remember when HBO was called HOME BOX OFFICE but didn't realize it was around in the 70's or that Freddie was on there. My Aunt & Uncle who used to live in another bnearby tonw had cable back then & swerew among the first to have it. When they moved to the country they got satellite dish. It was yrs before we had satellit living out int here country where there is no cable... It's weird but the 2 subdivisions on our road have it so why not us????

Okay I just asked my hubby (who is older than me) about Home box office and he said it came out around 1976. He said he use to go to a bar in Manhattan just to see the knicks in 1972 (?). So it looks like there was HBO back then!

And I remember one joke that the kids at school were repeating that Freddie supposedly told on the Home Box special:

He was talking about going to Florida, and he said people there are really old. Not sixty or seventy years old, but old: like with their tits hanging down to their ankles...
