View Full Version : I Bought Della Reese's Autobiography
Adamantium 12-14-2024, 05:55 PM I wanted to see what she had to say about her time on Chico and the Man. 339 pages in the book and only two talk about the show, lol. I understand she's more famous for other stuff, but I still was hoping for more than two pages. At least what she said was positive. She got along with everyone and became good friends with Jack Albertson and his wife.
She got the job because her agent sent a tape of a failed pilot she did with Ernest Borgnine over to James Komack, who was looking for an actress to be a regular on the show.
She have anything to say about Valerie on Touched By An Angel?

I'll check a little later and report back.
I forgot that Valerie was on that series (it's not one I ever watched) and I thought it was odd when I saw you replied to my thread, lol. But it makes sense now.

Okay, I checked and no, she didn't. But there's a good reason for that. The book was published in 1996. That was before Valerie Bertinelli joined the show.

That’s no excuse. She still should have said something ;)
Yeah, Valerie did the last two years. ‘01-‘03 I think.
I noticed you popping up on the Chico board lately. I take it you’re doing a rewatch (or a first watch?)

When TV Land showed Chico and the Man back in 2001 - 2003, it became a favorite of mine. I had all the episodes recorded and would visit this board quite often in '03 and '04. But around that time, I started to focus all of my attention onto TV shows on DVD. So, I quit watching Chico and the Man, hoping it would be released on DVD one day. Sadly, only a single disc "best of" came out around '06 or '07. I pretty much went without this show for twenty years (except for a brief moment when I bought bootleg DVDs but didn't care for the quality, so I barely watched them). Last December, the whole series came to Tubi. That's when I got back into it and found I still love this show. It's so good to have this series back in my life after a 20-year absence. I feel like I went from being Chico (in my early twenties) to Ed (younger as I'm only in my early forties, but I'm cranky and sore and want people to leave me alone, lol).
I've been trying to get this board to be more active lately but haven't been successful. All the women that used to post on this board back in the day have seemed to go away. I kind of thought there'd be a nice reunion when they saw I was back to posting but none of them are here anymore.
And yes, Della really should have mentioned Valerie. Maybe she could have said "The show is great and all but what it really needs is Valerie Bertinelli. You know her as Barbara Cooper on the '70s sitcom One Day at a Time. If we got her, we could probably run for nine seasons!"

I’ve seen the show, probably every episode, even the ones when the kid took over, but it’s been so long I don’t have many specific memories of it.

Yeah, the 20-year absence didn't do the show any favors. I forgot many of the episodes myself. But when I saw them again on Tubi, the memories came flooding back.
