I am glad they made up. I think Cindy was to blame for their separation. I can understand some of it. Cindy was not thrilled about being a TV actress. Cindy bailed on the last season anyway. Penny may not have been perfect but Cindy really created unnecessary drama on the show.

I think they worked out an arrangement where the sequence of their names alternated from week to week. I'm not sure if that was a first for TV shows but I know it's not unique.

No, that is not correct. Their names never alternated. To solve the problem that one of them would feel the other was getting top billing, they came through the door together. Both their names appeared at the same time.
I don't recall any other shows that introduced 2 actors at the same time.
In any event there were lots of problems on their set and jealousy was definitely one of them. I was thrilled when they made up and started to appear together again.

I wish the cast of Alice did the same.
