Hyperion Hotel from "Angel"

Angel Investigations used the fictional abandoned hotel as their base of operations during Seasons 2-4.

The building used for the exterior was Los Altos Apartments on 4121 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles.

Sandoval Hotel from "Tales from the Crypt's" Season 7 episode 'Horror in the Night'


In the episode, a wounded jewel thief decides to hide out in a budget hotel, the Sandoval, from the crooks he betrayed. He starts experiencing strange things in the hotel, such as blood on the walls, and seeing a mysterious, sexy woman.

At the end of the episode, his fellow crooks find him deceased and the hotel is revealed to be abandoned.

The Bar None Ranch from Nickelodeon's "Hey Dude"

Filming was done at the Tanque Verde Ranch in Tucson, Arizona which is still open today.



Production built a set approx. 2 miles away from the main building so filming did not interfere with the resort's day to day operations. They built a stable and a few buildings that were meant to be the reception area and employee lodging.

These abandoned buildings are still there today. They did occasionally film at the actual resort, such as for scenes by the pool.

Millstone Manor from the BBC series Grace & Favour. A spin-off series of the classic Britcom Are You Being Served?, employees of the Grace Brothers department store from that series inherit an English manor house as part of their pension agreement after their former employer dies. Many of the actors from the original series returned for the spin-off. The new owners decide to turn the manor into a luxury hotel/resort. The show was broadcast as Are You Being Served? Again! in the US:

Rose's date Arnie invites her to go on an unnamed cruise and she refuses to get intimate because she feels she would be betraying her late husband, Charlie. To note that Arnie was played by Harold Gould who would go on to play Miles.

In the John Wick franchise, The Continental hotels are safe havens for assassins where no business is allowed (killings).



The 3-episode limited series on Peacock, The Continental: From the World of John Wick, went into how Winston Scott (Ian McShane from the films) became the proprietor of the New York branch.

The softcore Cinemax series "Hotel Erotica" (2003-04)

The premise involved the hotel proprietor reading a letter from a previous guest where they detailed their sexual encounters at the hotel. Why they did that, I don't know. Of course, porn stars were featured on the show in the scenes that depicted the hotel trysts.

They used the Sorrel River Ranch Resort in Moab, Utah.




The series got a reboot in 2006, "Hotel Erotica Cabo".

In this series, the fictional Hotel Cabo in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico is run by two female managers. Hotel guests have sexual encounters at the hotel, sometimes with the two managers.

The Mayflower Inn & Spa in Washington, CT. was used for the exterior. The place has remodeled since the show filmed and no longer looks like this.

The exterior was a hotel near the airport in Ontario, California that had the right architecture resembling a 1980s Las Vegas hotel. They did not say which hotel was used.

The Fan-Tan was based on Las Vegas' Riviera which was where "Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling" filmed their first 2 seasons. The Riviera closed in 2015.

This one is part fictional/part real - The Omni International Hotel from "Mindhunter"

The set designers recreated the Atlanta, GA. hotel, as it looked in 1977, in the closed Century III Mall in West Mifflin, PA.

Demolition on the mall is expected to be completed in 2026.



The show also featured a bunch of unnamed motels where the characters stayed as they investigated cases across the country.
