The thing that strikes me about Jerry Seinfeld is that he seems so relaxed about his stand up comedy. This seems to be true for both the sitcom character and in real life. It's hard to imagine him being nervous about it or having stage fright. Even his presentation is very relaxed, compared with many other comics.
Someone like Steve Martin retired from stand up at a fairly young age to pursue other interests. While Jerry in his older age continues to develop and perform his standup. A lot of comics seem to do it for the adrenaline boost, while Jerry seems to do it out of some sort of creative pursuit, and a desire to find out what works and what doesn't. I can't imagine that he needs the money, it seems like something he would do whether he got paid or not.
In the sitcom, he never seems tense about performing, or like he has to psych himself up for it. He just walks on and does it, like it's as natural as breathing air.
