From the most recent Soap Opera Digest (dated June 1, 2010):

Brady Bunch alum Eve Plumb recently read for a part on One Life to Live and told Digest she wouldn't mind a "return" to soaps. Most recently, Plumb guested on Days of Our Lives as Dora in 2008 ("What a great experience," she says), and in 2003, she appeared in Pine Valley as June on All My Children. "That was such a treat," Plumb raves. "I've been a long-time AMC fan, and to appear opposite Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) was like a dream come true."

I guess those rumors of Eve walking around Sunset Strip with a sign that read "WILL ACT ON SOAPS FOR FOOD" were true then...

I had never heard any of those rumors! Where did you learn about them?

My tongue was firmly in cheek when I posted that remark.

If any soap does book Eve (and I hope they will) they better not make the mistake of booking Maureen McCormack for the same episodes. (all it could be good for ratings)

They could have an on-screen catfight...and it wouldn't have to be scripted.

If that doesn't help soaps' faltering ratings, I don't know what will!!!

I don't watch soaps, but I would watch if there was a Marcia/Jan reunion catfight.

By the way, I like that picture of Eve.

I like it, too. I think Maureen/Eve could give Dynasty's Krystle/Alexis a run for their money in the catfight department. :cat: :kitties:

I am wondering if the fact that soaps are not doing too well has to do with competition with talk shows and news programs. I remember the days in which there were also a significant amount of games shows during the hours that house wives and homemakers were watching. If you go as far back as the mid-eighties, you would even see the occasional repeat of a prime-time sitcom on the major stations! Oh how the times have changed!

That would probably even blow the ratings for Luke and Laura's wedding out of the water!!

Say "Luke and Laura" to some kid and wait for a blank stare. You're dating yourself, Monika -- and you weren't even old enough to have seen their wedding in 1981. Well, you may have been watching, but I doubt you remember it.;)

I DID see it years later on video (and when they reran classic soap opera episodes over Thanksgiving/Christmas a few years back - that was one of them). That was the highest-rated soap opera event ever - and I think this is one of the highest-rated REAL LIFE soap operas!!

Hey you never know. Instead of going to the Grand Canyon or Hawaii the Bunch should have vacationed in Salem with Roman, Bo, and the rest of their Brady cousins!

Monika, no offense, but seeing it on video years later isn't the same. It's like me watching a tape of The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. It's great, but not with the hysteria and anticipation of actually being there when it actually happened.

No soap opera before or since achieved the level of fame and hysteria as General Hospital did with Luke and Laura in 1981. It got the kind of media coverage that prime time shows and movies got. Daytime soaps were viewed as a sort of TV ghetto back then, even though they had large legions of fans. Even Mad Magazine did a parody of GH and they only parodied prime time shows.

I didn't watch General Hospital and even I watched Luke and Laura's wedding. A friend used to watch it after school and I happened to be over at his house. Hell, they got Elizabeth Taylor to make a guest appearance! And that kind of thing didn't happen back then.

I don't blame Genie Francis for leaving GH soon after the wedding, because everything was at its peak.

^ Yeah, I know, but I was only 2 in 1981 when L&L got married. My great-grandmother used to watch AMC and GH, and visited us often, so I might very well have "watched" when the wedding originally aired. Not that I'd remember it.

I DO remember the hype back in 1993 when L&L returned to GH. I didn't watch soaps then, but commercials during the prime time sitcoms were all going, "Luke and Laura are back!", etc.

If you get a chance, go onto YouTube and watch Genie Francis' Intimate Portrait. It gives a real interesting look at a teenager behind the character, who dealt with serious issues (first kiss, first dates, affairs, marriages) on screen before she did in real life, and how it affected her psyche. It's an interesting program.

Do you have some special dislike of the "Lifetime" network?

Do you have some special dislike of the "Lifetime" network?

Yes. Not because it's a network for women, but rather, that by-and-large, they show bad "movie of the week" women's movies that in my view, stereotype them.
