How much did Lucille Ball weigh when she was pregnant. She looked very heavy, despite the unflatteing maternity clothes she wore. I think she was close to 200 lbs.

Geez, since March, that is the most original question i've ever heard, and one of the few i dun't know the answer to, it's always said that she got big as an elephant but i dun't recall them ever mentioning a specific weight!

Actually she only weighed around 150 when she was pregnant. It is said that smaller women tend to blow up like balloons when they're pregnant. Who knows?

Wow...makes some sense though. My mom weighed like 100 pounds before she got pregnant and gained like 30 pregnant.

153 isn't very much, in an episode of the show she said she was
132 and she wasn't even pregnant. My guess is that she was
about 180lbs or so.

I think you were talking about the episode The Diet, which they said she was 132. But just because that was Lucy Ricardo's weight, it doesn't mean it was her weight in real life. But who knows.

Is it just me, or did she look a lot heavier than 132 in that episode? I'm guessing remaining baby weight was the culprit.

You're probably right, she looked heavier than Ethel in that episode. Probably 140lbs.

I don't think her arms and legs looked that heavy. Those maternity "tents" she wore were not too flattering. She was all baby.

akirafan

Still, if it was only baby weight, it was a lot of baby weight.

samantha234ffd
10-30-2002, 12:12 AM
She was in tent-like clothing, but she did gain an awful lot of
weight. She even said in an interview that she gained over
70lbs. That would make her almost 200lbs.
In response to what melluvslucy said when she posted ---"that
smaller women tend to blow up like balloons when they're
pregnant."---- This can apply to any woman, and it certainly
applied to Lucille Ball.

It's not just you, I've long thought she looked fat in those early episodes. I think she looked her best in during the first couple years of TLS, which was a vast improvement over the way she looked just a few years earlier during the last couple years of the hour shows.

153lbs isn't much. I can lift 150lbs and I'm only 5'9" and not
very strong. If Lucy was that light I could have carried her
in my arms although she was nine months pregnant. Judging by
the way she looked in those episodes, she was a lot heavier.

yeah i don't believe it myself, thats why I'm wondering where Babalu found this. especially if she weighed as much in real life as Lucy Ricardo did on ILL, which we found out in Lucy Tells the Truth that she weighed 133.

Well, it's not very proper to guess a women's weight! But I don't know, I was just saying that I doubt that the writers asked Lucille Ball what her weight was and then stuck it in the script as Lucy Ricardo's weight. Some people are really sensitive about their weight.

alexo451
11-02-2002, 05:03 PM
I can understand how some people may be sensitive about
their weight. But a pregnant woman should have nothing to be
ashamed of. Heavy pregnant women can be very beautiful.
Most doctors encourage a lot of weight gain during pregnancy anyway.

SPLAIN
11-04-2002, 11:10 AM
Nobody should worry about something as insignificant as their weight, it's what's inside the heart that matters! And i might not agree that there is something so beautiful as a pregnant woman's body, see photo of Demi Moore on that Vanity Fair cover, but it is the most beautiful thing in the world that the woman is giving life to another human being! The fact that they wanted to HIDE that in the 50's is another example of how slow we are to recognize what's beautiful and what's not. A skinny model who just threw up her last meal is not beautiful, a pregnant woman is!

I mean, let's look at the 50's. Our sex symbols were women like Marilyn Monroe, who wore like a size 12. Now anything above a 4 is fat. What happened??!!!

07-26-2003, 03:10 AM
My grandma who is a year older than Lucy and still alive by the way just told me how Lucy being pregnant on tv sort of embarrassed her. Things like that just weren't disgust then. Even married pregnant women didn't flaunt back then. So to have an obviously pregnant women on tv was just over the top. Boy, how times have changed!

And if you smoke, stop it while pregnant, like Lucy did!

Not just whilst pregnant - stop full stop!

This 'showing pregnant women is disgusting' attitude is almost impossible to understand these days. I really can't see what the problem was! I don't think it was as bad in the UK, although I might be wrong. There was quite a move for social realism after the war, and certainly in films there was no attempt to hide the pregnancy issue - although obviously the issue of how they came to be pregnant was completely glossed over! I suppose it's what pregnancy suggests that was the problem; the fact that in order to get that way they must have been up to something! All part of the same bizarre attitude that led to single beds for married couples on screen. :) Talk about juvenile...

The whole single bed thing just cracks me up when I see it. Just knowing. Goodnight dear, and that's it.

OT I just heard when they filmed Gone With The Wind they had to pay a $5,000 fine for Rhett's imfamous line. "Frankly I don't give a d@mn.

I really said wow when I saw Demi Moore on a cover of a magazine with her tummy bulging out. I do think we have gone a bit too much forward. SOme of the rigs people wear. My my.
Oh I think Fred weight 160. Rick 150.. and Ethel 150. Lucy

Wanna hear my Canadian joke?

I had a friend named Miles who wanted to move to Canada but they were going to make him change his name to Kilometers, so he didn't move.

Is that okay? Since it isn't about the French canadians.

14 stone = 1 pound... so 2100 pounds by my reckoning. Beyond that you're on your own. We have weird measurements in the UK. Anybody younger than around 40 has never learnt anything other than the metric system. Kilograms, metres, millimetres, kilometers - but we still measure height in feet and inches, distance in miles and weight in stones (except in cooking, when it's in ounces). I don't have a clue what any of it means - my mind deals only with metric measurements - but I'll be damned if I can estimate height in anything other than feet and inches. Nobody younger than forty knows what the hell Fahrenheit is all about either, though fortunately there are handy ways of converting between the two. I learnt Celsius and Kelvin. Bloody weather forecasters still talk about Fahrenheit! Only concession the younger generation has managed is finally stopping people talking about bloody shillings...

I think that's the other way around since 1 Stone = 14 Pounds. But thats a really old fashioned measurement.

14 pounds=1 stone - that's what I meant! And yes, it's old fashioned! :)

I'm 5'6'. I was about 120 or 125 when I got pregnant and  about 50 lbs more at the end. Luckily it all came off afterward. (plus an extra 5 lbs. ) I would never gain that much again.
