She went from being adept at comedy, then did a 180 and focused on serious drama, completely writing off comedy. She said in interviews in the early '90s that she was offered many projects to do comedy again, but she was not interested in returning to what made her a success.

Perhaps she felt trapped as she was "stuck" on the Bewitched sitcom train and didn't want to experience it again. So she passed on all comedy offers.

She was such a talented actress who could do both comedy and drama. It would have been nice to see her do a few more comedic roles.

Looking at her filmography (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Montgomery#Filmography), I noticed that from 1985 (https://oforinvolvingmotionpictures.wordpress.com/2023/02/03/essential-between-the-darkness-and-the-dawn-1985/) through 1990 (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099535/), Elizabeth didn't take on an acting project. I don't know if during that time frame, she was getting very picky about the projects that she would take on (https://www.datalounge.com/thread/29513082-why-didn-t-elizabeth-montgomery-become-a-movie-star-). But regardless, that appears to be the longest that she went in her career with out working save for narrating a 1988 documentary film called Coverup: Behind the Iran Contra Affair.

Liz Sheridan (Jerry's mom on Seinfeld) was a very close and dear friend to Elizabeth Montgomery and she said on Elizabeth's A&E Biography from 1999 that Elizabeth "didn't think she was funny".
