Broadcaster Jim Perry, known for hosting several Canadian and American games shows and the Miss Canada Pageant for more than two decades, died on Friday. He was 82.

Born in New Jersey in on November 9, 1933, Perry started out as a singer before becoming the host of CTV’s "Definition," a Hangman-style game show. He hosted the show for 15 years until it ended in 1989. From 1972 to 1983, he also hosted “Headline Hunters,” a CTV show that quizzed contestants on news by offering clues in the form of headlines.

Perry may be best known as the host of the Miss Canada Pageant, a role he held from 1967 to 1990. A talented vocalist, he was known for serenading the winning contestant to the tune “The Fairest Girl in Canada” after the crowning.

He also hosted several American game shows, including “Card Sharks” and “$ale of the Century.”
According to a friend, Perry died at his home in Eagle Point, Oregon after a long battle with cancer.

Jim Perry, best known as the original host of "Card Sharks," has died today of Cancer at age 82.

James Edward Dooley was born in Camden, New Jersey on November 9, 1933.

In addition to "Card Sharks," Jim also hosted "Sale of the Century" from 1983-1989 on NBC, assisted by Summer Bartholomew.

He also had success as a game show host in Canada with, among others, "Definition."

Here's to James Edward "Jim" Dooley, a.k.a. Jim Perry.

Both his 1983-89 $ale of the Century and a popular TPIR pricing game called Plinko premiered on my second birthday in 1983 (Jan. 3).

I loved Card Sharks. I remember watching the show with my Grandma. Such a great game. R.I.P. Jim. :(

that was not the first NBC episode BTW, I just heard the news, I feel sorry for his family

I tried to find the NBC Version, all I could find was the Syndicated version that was played on many NBC Affiliates.

But I have the first "Card Sharks", I think this is the first one, with Jim Perry...
