"General Hospital" Actor Chad Duell Announces Exit

Chad Duell, who has played Michael Corinthos on GH for 14 years, is exiting the ABC soap opera.

Duell announced the news in an Instagram post on Saturday, writing, “After many incredible years with ‘General Hospital,’ I’ve decided to step away from the show. This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life. I’m beyond grateful to Frank Valentini, the cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes who have been like family to me throughout this amazing journey.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering support and for letting Michael Corinthos be a part of your lives. Your love and encouragement has meant the world to me. This isn’t a goodbye — it’s a see you later.”




In a post on X, EP Frank Valentini wrote, “I have loved working with Chad over the years and wish him nothing but the best. He is a terrific actor and will be missed by everyone at #GH.

There are no plans to recast his role at this time, but you never know in daytime. I can promise a great story for Michael and his family when Chad exits in the new year.”

Chad Duell Reflects on GH Exit

Chad Duell is reflecting on his "General Hospital" exit after 14 years and explaining why he decided to walk away from the ABC sudser. In a new interview, the actor opened up about why he chose to leave the long-running soap.

“It’s a life adjustment,” Duell said during a recent appearance on the Daily Drama Podcast with Steve Burton & Bradford Anderson. “A lot of stuff’s been going on in my life. There’s a few things behind it but one thing I did say is my dad passed away and I’m still coming to terms with that.”




Duell also noted wanting to spend more time with his partner and their baby son, adding:

“I’m preparing myself for next chapter. Right now, I’m just trying to grow in ways that maybe I feel like I stifled myself in certain aspects and sometimes you need to take drastic steps or make yourself feel uncomfortable and that’s not what I’ve done in a long time.”




Duell said the door was left open to return in the future possibly, but he says he has “a few things planned” for himself.

He added, “It’s different because I have a kid now. But also for him and me as well and everybody, doing what’s best for me — spiritually, mentally, everything — will only reflect my energy in a better way towards everybody around me, and I want to make sure that I take care of myself as well, which I haven’t always done.”

Friday’s episode of "General Hospital" (ABC, 3/2c) officially welcomes back Michael Corinthos, only he looks a little different than when we last saw him in January.

The character, previously portrayed by Chad Duell, is now being played by former "The Young and the Restless" actor Rory Gibson, TVLine has confirmed.
