Perhaps you remember when Hooked On Phonics was all the rage during the 80's and 90's and is still a hot seller today? We know that children need to learn phonics as part of getting ready for school and in the 80's Hooked On Phonics was launched with their very first commercial. As you can tell from the commercials Hooked On Phonics was a learning program that taught basic phonics to children set to music and there were many colored cassette tapes each with different levels of phonics. This series has been an award winner for about 30 years and has had many commercials over the years and although no celebrity has ever been a spokesperson for Hooked On Phonics commercials it did spin off another series of board games called The Phonics Game in which Jeopardy host Alex Trebek was featured as spokesman in The Phonics Game commercials. Another interesting fact is the woman seen providing the voiceover in the Hooked On Phonics commercials is Randi Thomas who later was the announcer for the debut season of GSN's Lingo. Even today parents still use Hooked On Phonics as a learning tool for their kids but watch these commercials and you'll see why it works like a charm
