Chappelle hosted the first Saturday Night Live episodes after the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, as well as the first episode after the 2022 midterms. But for the post-2024 presidential election episode on Nov. 9, SNL is going with another controversial comedian (https://tvline.com/lists/snl-season-50-hosts-saturday-night-live/): Bill Burr, who hosted once before in 2020. He'll be joined by indie singer-songwriter Mk.gee as musical guest. "Chappelle taking the SNL stage after an election became a tradition of sorts, but for reasons unknown, SNL boss Lorne Michaels is switching up the show’s ritual and replacing Chappelle, as it gears up to follow the most consequential presidential election in American history," says Eboni Boykin-Patterson. As Boykin-Patterson notes, Chappelle's last time hosting in 2022 came with controversy with several writers reportedly boycotting (https://www.thedailybeast.com/furious-saturday-night-live-writers-boycott-over-comedian-dave-chappelles-return-as-host-report-says/) his return to the show over his anti-trans jokes, though a show rep said there was “no evidence” that anyone was sitting out the episode for that reason. ALSO: Charli XCX will host and serve as musical guest for the Nov. 16 SNL (https://x.com/nbcsnl/status/1852002729633120408).

SNL threaded the needle with an "impossible" post-election episode (https://www.avclub.com/saturday-night-live-recap-season-50-episode-6)

Hey everyone, today's video is on Bill Burr's recent monologue on Saturday Night Live and my opinion on the set and a lo of the discourse surrounding it. I think the usual suspects were going to hate this set from Bill no matter what because he teases the ladies a little bit, but it was a rough week in general to host Saturday Night Live given the election just passing and Trump winning a landslide victory. Given Bill's headstrong approach to stand-up comedy it was no surprise to me that he embraced the parts of his set where the audience gets noticeably uncomfortable. I think Patrice O'Neal would've been very proud of the way Bill handled this set, and I think the set is receiving a little too much hate in my opinion. I still prefer his first monologue set, but make no mistake this set was very good as well. Anyway, If you enjoyed this comedy lore enough please like the video, subscribe to the channel, turn on post notifications, and share this with someone you think would enjoy it. Thanks for watching, I love you guys.
