Kaitlin Olson Suggests “Slightly Tamer” Episodes of "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia" for "Abbott Elementary" Fans

As trouble comes to "Abbott Elementary", Kaitlin Olson is providing a cheat sheet for fans curious about "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia".

Ahead of Wednesday’s crossover event, airing Wednesday with a new episode of "Abbott" on ABC, the 3x Emmy nominee provided a list of “hilarious but slightly tamer” episodes of her mature FXX series for first-time viewers.

Olson’s viewing recommendations came after "Abbott Elementary" creator and star Quinta Brunson admitted fans are “having a mental breakdown” discovering "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia".

“Hi! Are you a big Abbott Elementary fan excited for the crossover episode but have never seen Sunny and are excited to dive in?” she prefaced her viewing list for AV Club.

“Great! Except…you might want to take some baby steps. It’s not on network television for a reason. (Or, instead of baby steps, maybe stop being a baby and enjoy the wilder ones? Your call!) But if you’d like to watch it with your (older) kids or your grandma, maybe check out these ones first.

They’re just as hilarious but slightly tamer than others. (Please don’t watch ‘The Nightman Cometh’ with your grandma.)”

Olson’s husband Rob McElhenney, "It’s Always Sunny" creator and co-star, said, “Oh, well, we’ve discussed this quite a bit. Our biggest concern is that people will watch Abbott and think, ‘Oh, we like these characters. We like this episode. Let’s go check out the other show with the whole family.’ And we’re going to caution people against that.”

Although the "Sunny" characters might have rubbed off on "Abbott", as McElhenney told Brunson in another interview with the Los Angeles Times, “There’s a joke in your episode that I cannot believe is going to make the final cut. … I cannot believe that that joke was made on your show.”
