View Full Version : Entertainment Tonight FreddieFan 10-12-2002, 07:21 PM Just saw a commercial for ET for Monday evening. Tony Orlando will be interviewed and will talk about Freddie Prinze. Pitooey 10-12-2002, 09:18 PM Thanks for keeping us updated Freddie fan!!! I'll be watching it.......... Prince 10-13-2002, 12:30 AM It had better be positive..or else...I just don't trust phoney Tony. Cheryl Harrell 10-13-2002, 02:08 AM Thanks for the heads up & info! :) I HAVE to see this! I sure wish this on Wed nite when I would be home. Wouldn't you know it? Mon nite at 7 PM (The time ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT is on) is the monthly church ladies meeting at church & I always go with my mom. So guess where I will be at 7 PM. LOL! ;( Thank God for VCR's cuz I wll have the VCR set up to tape this! I will have to spend the whole church ladies meeting wondering what is going on on there & if my VCR cut on & taped it right. Yow! My folks are picking me earlier on Mon & I'll eat out with them & then go with my moms to the church ladies meeting. Mike is supposed to go visit his cousin & her hubby & eat with them while I'm at church ladies meeting. They will probably pick him up & my mom take him home when she takes me home cuz they live really close to the church, practically across the street. I'm gonna have him have them tape it off their tv just in case our VCR goes nutty & doesn't tape it. I probably won't be able to see it until after 9 PM. The wait's gonna kill me! LOL! On the other hand our local NBC station ch. 12 (Richmond, VA) plays it at 2:05 am as well which means later that nite (actually the next am) I get to see it twice!!!! :) :D :rotflmao:  Here is ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHTS website: http://www.etonline.com/aboutET/a12699.htm Nothing on Mondays show but maybe Sunday nite or early Monday they will ahve something on it. Video of Tony Orlando recalling the day he walked offstage: http://www.etonline.com/media_player/choose.htm?/Media/Windows/Video/2002/01/6593.asx,/Media/Windows/Video/2002/01/6592.asx Cheryl Harrell 10-13-2002, 02:32 AM Woo-hoo! I found online the clip that is advertising this episode of ENTERTAINMENT TONITE & you can watch it here: http://www.etonline.com/html/tonightonet/tonight.htm I am dying to know what he saw when Freddie died. & What he kept Secret from Jr & why... Oh yeah! When I right clicked on the urrl to bring it up in another window it gave me an error message something about an OLE but the thing does come up to view it. You have to click on the okay & then it comes up. Enjoy! Also I looked up his website to look for more info & it lists some appearances of interest on his website. Evidently he has written a book & is doing book signings. http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/tonyorlandostroopoffans//Yahoo!+Photo+Album/Half+Way+to+Paradise---1.jpg?grKAnq9AlthIyGL. According to the message board on Tonys site the book is out & mentions Freddie! To read a message by a Freddie fan on it read here: http://www.friends-of-toad.com/Message%20Board/message_board.htm http://www.friends-of-toad.com/Frame%20Schedule.htm Mon October 14, 2002 - THE TODAY SHOW (NBC). Check local listings for schedule. Tony will make an appearance to discuss the release of his book, Halfway to Paradise, available in stores now. Seeing the pic of Tony on his site here makes me wonder if Freddie might've looked similar to how he is on here? http://www.tonyorlandoonline.com/home.htm http://www.tonyorlandoonline.com/home.h2.jpg I am highly suspecting the ENTERTAINMENT TONITE appearance is to promote the book and not just cuz he wants to give us some inside info on Freddie. But I am just glad he is talking about him on there... Glad to provide this as a service for us CHICOHOLICS. ;) :) MariposaLKB 10-13-2002, 07:53 AM I blew off my swim aerobics class all summer and paid the price in weight gain LOL! Monday and Wednesday night are tied up with that now. I have never figured out how to tape a show off of satellite either--and anyway, my girls will be watching their cartoons while I am out, and you can't tape and watch at the same time with our system! I doubt that Freddie would look the way Tony does now. On that book cover Tony looks alot like Edward James Olmos. I never could see why people thought he and Freddie looked so much alike, apart from them both being dark and Hispanic. Freddie would be MUCH better looking, even today! Cheryl Harrell 10-13-2002, 10:48 AM Oh man that's a shame you're gonna miss it. Maybe you could skip an swim aerobics for the one nite. Or hook the vcr to another tv. Good luck! I am so glad I'll at least get to tape it via the VCR's timer at 7 pm & see it again at 2 :05 am. I just wish I could see it live... Prince 10-13-2002, 11:57 AM I agree 100% Mariposa...Tony never had anything over Freddie. Freddie put him to shame in the looks department. Freddie was far more talented as well. MariposaLKB 10-13-2002, 01:20 PM My husband told me he may have to work late due to it being the end of the fiscal year and him being the main budget person LOL! If he can't watch the kids, no swimming for me! Oh darn.... And yes, Macca, I agree Freddie had the talent over Tony as well! Sadly, we didn't get to hear him sing much, but what I have heard was so beautiful it put Tony to shame! Not to mention the acting! Pitooey 10-13-2002, 09:41 PM I wonder what he saw in Freddie Prinze's death bed.... He says it's so shocking......... Plus I wonder what Freddie Jr. doesn't know. I've got to see this. Let's see what he says of Our Prinze!!! Now that I think of it Tony must've been heavily on cocaine at that time too. Maybe he really couldn't help Freddie at the time because of his own addiction. I'm still so mad that people turned their backs on Freddie. :( Cheryl Harrell 10-13-2002, 09:45 PM Wow, sorry you have to miss your swim class. Maybe you'll get to get ahold of a tv & see Tony talk about Freddie. I found out BOOK A MILLION has the book so Tues we will go & look at it & see the Freddie parts! :) From what I've read baout Tony he is a good Christian man now & is for the family & veterans & God etc. He seems like an interesting person to meet. I think if he ignored Freddie near the end it was cuz he was so goofed up on drugs he didn't know what he was doing & it caused him to ignroe folks he shouldn't have. I wonder if when he was doing all that dramatic orating about Freddie after the funeral if maybe he was on drugs then & it caused him to not act as he normally would've. Hopefully he'll be positive about Freddie in the book. Can't wait to get home tomorrow nite & see the video fo ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT... Cheryl Harrell 10-14-2002, 05:35 PM Dumb, stupid me! I had wanted to set up the VCR to tape Tony Orlando off the TODAY show to see if he mentioned Freddie on there. Stupdi me f orgot to saet the VCR to tape it cuz I was too obsessed in setting up the VCR to tape hte ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT. If hubby messeed with the top VCR while I was gone--- DIVORCE LOL! Am loving the new pics & poems etc. Couldn't reply int he other topics cuz I'm at my folks house on their puter & it is so slow. It took me 10 yrs to get on here LOL! Can't wait till I get home to night to see the tape! :) Pitooey 10-14-2002, 07:38 PM This is what Tony said........ (See below).. Redd Foxx turned him on (Tony) to cocaine. What he saw in Freddie's hospital bed was his hand clutched so tightly. When he walked in it looked like Freddie still had the gun in his hand. Tony said that he took Freddie's hand and started to open it up. He said he got so mad at Freddie for what he did to himself. Also he said that Freddie Jr. might not know that but it was in his house that they gave him his first birthday party. He regrets not being there for Freddie Jr. over the years because he promised Freddie Sr. on his deathbed that he would be there for his son and he wasn't. Luckymama58 10-14-2002, 08:08 PM And please only believe about half of what Tony says. Some of his "facts" are inconsistant with a lot of what I have read, especially in his mother's book. Kathy, for one, didn't like Freddie's "druggie" friends, like Tony and Richard Prior. I can't see her having Pie's first birthday party at Tony's house. And his mother said that Tony wasn't in the room when they pulled the plug. I think Tony's recollections about Freddie's death are through a mind clouded with the cocaine he took. Tony was always known for trying to steal the limelight in those days too. I know I am no fan of Kathy's, but I think I would be inclined to believe her over him. And I believe Maria over the both of them. Poor Freddie, if only he were here to defend himself. And I disagree with Tony, he hemmed and hawed about if drugs weren't a part of Freddie's life would he still be here today. HE COULD'T SAY YES. I am sorry, but I have to believe that even if things were bad in Freddie's life, if he hadn't been influenced by the drugs, he would have found a way to cope and would still be here today. Sorry, this interview made me mad .... I know this might upset a few people on the boards and I am sorry. These are my opinions and I don't mean to start a fight. Please don't jump me for the way I feel, OK? MariposaLKB 10-14-2002, 08:14 PM If Tony actually did make that deathbed promise to look out for Jr., then probably the only accurate thing he said in this interview was that he let Freddie down. IMHO he was already doing that before Freddie pulled the trigger--particularly by not insisting Freddie get into rehab! Karen64 10-14-2002, 08:20 PM Tony strikes me as one of those people who say things that he thinks people want to hear at the moment... Who dramatizes things to make himself look good or to look important..... I don't know, somthing about his personality...there are a lot of people like that, including my mother-in-law!!! He probably is a great guy and I loved his music and I would love to read his book! Pitooey 10-14-2002, 08:24 PM Originally posted by JennyLee22 Now that I think of it Tony must've been heavily on cocaine at that time too. Maybe he really couldn't help Freddie at the time because of his own addiction. I'm still so mad that people turned their backs on Freddie. :( I want to clarify the quote above... I just feel that after seeing what Whitney Houston is going through with her addiction and the lustrious career she has had and how she is blowing it all away because of cocaine . I'm feeling that maybe Tony did have a huge problem too. As for Luckymama - I don't blame you Lucky. I too would believe Maria first and foremost before I believe anyone else. One thing that I'm afraid of is when Maria is no longer here on earth to defend Freddie that the evil people will come out to slur Freddie's name some more. I keep thinking that alot of people are quiet now because Maria (Bless her) is still with us. If anything happens to her I hope that his name is not muddied more than it has already. Especially from Tony and Freddie's wife K. & other so called friends. jamison__99 10-14-2002, 09:34 PM i don't think tony should blame himself for growing apart from pie. didn't kathy pull away from hollywood, and all the bad that was in freddie's last years? i was *so* hoping that orlando wouldn't say that freddie turned him on to drugs. i wish he didn't name anyone. in fact, i had a hard time with how they promoted this interview. it sounds like "the child he will never get to hug again" -- so fake, so sensationalistic. still, i will look for the book at my library. sift through the melodramatic, try to find some meat. jamison Cheryl Harrell 10-14-2002, 11:07 PM Well I got back from the church ladies meeting awhile back & watched the tape of it. CH 12 wasn't coming in so good on the top VCR so at 2:05 AM when it comes on again I will tape it again off the bottom VCR. I hope to take some pics off it with my digital camera & put on here sometime... When I watched it they showed pics of Freddie & the grave & it made me cry. :crying: It was so sad. After I watched it I had to go get a hankerchief. :crying: I'm still trying to get over it. I agree with Luckymama that I believe Maria over anyone else. I honestly think Tony was goofed on drugs & was so goofed on drugs that he wasn't able to help Freddie & I think the drugs messed up his memory so that he didn't remember things right. I like Red Foxx & always enjoyed SANFORD & SON but it bothers me that he introduced Tony to cocaine & Tony in turn may have introduced Freddie to it. Tony seems like a nice guy & a nice person to probably meet & I think I'd enjoy meeting him if I ever got the chance. These stars had no business fooling with drugs & introducing others to them. I think Tony had a bad problem with drugs & thankfully got over it & learned his lesson about them. If only somone could've gotten Freddie help. He would be here today... :crying: I feel that with Freddies friends, a few of them like Freddie's Mom, Jay Leno & Mando honestly had no idea how bad off he was & if they had known they would've tried to help him. But most were like this-- either too goofed up on drugs to know what was going on with him & even if they had known, too goofed up to help him like Tony Orlando or either too involved in their careers to notice or care. It's so sad. I am sick & tired of folks acting like Freddie had a cocaine problem. I think his problem was he was addicted to the pills the dr gave him, not hard drugs. He should be remembered for his acting talents & not as the comic who did drugs & blew his brains out!!!! :( I am looking at my picture of Chico & Ed that is on the wall behind my puter table to the left of it & I am getting a feeling from Freddie that he wants people to know this: His problem was not cocaine or hard drugs. He did not have "Drug" problem but was taking pills a dr gave him & accidentally got hooked on them. Prescription drugs was his problem. The pills really messed him up & caused him to do things he wouldn't have normally have done. Freddie cried easily & was very sensitive & sentimental. Being not like a typical guy who holds his feelings inside like most guys but instead letting his feelings out & crying-- his suicide was not caused by holding his feelings inside. It was caused by him having his heart broken right into at a time when he was dealing with all sorts of problems like being sued by the former mananger & a busy schedule & all that & the divorce overwhelmed him so bad that he took too many pills & that caused him to commit suicide. Had he not taken the pills I think he wouldn't have ended it all but instead cried it all out. He wants to be remembered for his talents & as a comic that died way too young sadly. But not as a cocaine user or a nut who blew his brains out. He wants to be loved & remembered fondly & with love... I do think Tony is a bit theatrical but that just may be his personality. I think the drugs may have messed him up & caused him to be more theatrical than normal. I sure wish he'd come on here & fill us in on more info & clarify some stuff. I think he would be great to meet & really did love Freddie, it's just he was too messed up on drugs. I'm glad he didn't talk really bad about him. It is sad tho he never got around to contacting Jr. Hopefully he will soon. Jr needs to know what wonderful man his dad is... I plan to go to BOOKS A MILLION tomorrow & look for the book to see what is in it. I can't wait! :) Sorry to ramble on so but after going to the church ladies meeting. (& They do have sweets there. Finger foods yum!). I now have high sugars (A curse of being diabetic & going to events with sweets at them)... I feel that one thing he wants people to know is: "Remember me with love"... :) I will tune in to the 2nd airing tonights ENTERTAINMENT TONITE at 2:05 am & this time I know to have a hankie in advance when watching it... wheeeone 10-15-2002, 01:47 AM Luckymama, I so agree with what you posted and applaud your honesty. Since the interview focused 75 % on Freddie and Freddie Jr....who just happens to be a popular actor with millions of fans who would most likely buy the book also...I had the impression it was a way to sell quite a few more books than he would have, had the interview not focused on Freddie and Freddie Jr. I won't be putting any money in his pocket after watching what seemed to be an opportunity to "use" Freddie and Jr. As you said, Luckymama...it's only my personal opinion. Cheryl Harrell 10-15-2002, 04:50 AM I watched ENTERTAINMENT TONITE again at 2:05 AM. & I cried all over again. It's so sad. This time I knew to have a hanky with me when I watched. :crying: I did up a pic of Freddie & Tony Orlando. Enjoy! It just occurred to me that in this pic Freddie looks so sad in comparison to Tony's happy look... Cheryl Harrell 10-15-2002, 05:15 AM I took pictures off of the ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT with my digital camera. I put them up in the CHICOHOLICS group. I am posting them here too. Enjoy! http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight+1.jpg?bcqlMr9AinGSPQUV http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++2.jpg?bcqlMr9A9QyrDpT0 http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight+5.jpg?bcqlMr9AF1L6seHw http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight+6.jpg?bcqlMr9AOUuAd4gJ http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight+7.jpg?bcqlMr9A.xT4pxxW I noticed in the pic where he's holding a garage rag in his hands & going Little Dog In The Window With The Head Going Up and Down, his garage rag looks kinda like a hanky. That made me wonder if he might've used a hanky as a garage rag rather than them have to go & get a garage rag for the show... Cheryl Harrell 10-15-2002, 05:20 AM I don't know if they will all fit into one post so here they come in sections... http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++8.jpg?bcqlMr9A7JaCE5IM http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++9.jpg?bcqlMr9A.13JyTtb http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++10.jpg?bcqlMr9AtUMWLnQt http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++11.jpg?bcqlMr9AMOZtcQWq http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++12.jpg?bcqlMr9Ax_DC1EIn http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++13.jpg?bcqlMr9Aq4D.nkI4 Cheryl Harrell 10-15-2002, 05:26 AM http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight+3.jpg?bcqlMr9AZJwoUam. http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++4.jpg?bcqlMr9Ako6abRu0 http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++14.jpg?bcqlMr9AgsvTP9nK http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight+15.jpg?bcqlMr9ADIL9Glci http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++16.jpg?bcqlMr9AzkecQc2f http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++17.jpg?bcqlMr9AT2zT5Smb http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/chicoholics/Freddie+Tony+Entertainment+Tonight+Pics/Entertainment+Tonight++18.jpg?bcqlMr9ACu2Tagmt Sorry the qualitys not the greatest but I don't have one of those photo capture thingys. I was trying to depict how Freddie would look if he were alive today & looked like Tony Orlando does today. Sorry if it looks so bad but it was hard putting Freddies face on Tonys body. It's a what if thingy... Pitooey 10-15-2002, 06:08 PM You did a good job Cheryl................... it's sad to see Freddie gone and Tony alive and well with his health. :crying: Cheryl Harrell 10-16-2002, 05:20 AM I agree with ya. I'm glad Tony is alive & well but I wish Freddie had been too... :crying: I went to a bookstore to look at Tonys book & see the Freddie parts. Well I took the plunge and bought Tonys new book. I scanned the Freddie parts so we all can see. I may wind up taking it back cuz $22 is alot of $$$ for a book like that & I think I need the money worse than the book. If I take it back at least I'll have the scans of the Freddie stuff... I put the scans of the Freddie stuff from the book in the CHICOHOLICS YAHOO GROUP. The text is all blurred. :( Cheryl Harrell 10-16-2002, 05:38 AM Part 8 Cheryl Harrell 10-16-2002, 05:42 AM Part 9 Cheryl Harrell 10-16-2002, 05:44 AM Part 10 Cheryl Harrell 10-16-2002, 05:47 AM Part 11 Cheryl Harrell 10-16-2002, 05:48 AM Part 12 Cheryl Harrell 10-16-2002, 05:50 AM Part 13 Cheryl Harrell 10-16-2002, 05:52 AM The pics from the book... Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. Tony Orlando was on David Letterman last nite. He just came on for a minute talking about his book. He said some funny stuff but didn't mention Freddie... Cheryl Harrell 10-16-2002, 06:05 AM The pics didn't attach for some reason so here they are... Pitooey 10-16-2002, 04:21 PM You did some good work Cheryl......... I wonder if Tony lied about Freddie wanting to be a ballerina? MariposaLKB 10-16-2002, 04:53 PM I do know that at the High School for the Performing Arts, Freddie was required to study dance, and that his mother had put him in ballet classes when he was very little because of his weight. I have also read that he was accepted to the Joffrey Ballet School and had to make the choice between pursuing that and becoming a stand-up comic fulltime. But I don't think it was a hard decision for him to make--he took alot of teasing around the neighborhood for his dancing. Joy 10-16-2002, 07:01 PM another thing i find inconsistant in Tony's account is the fact that he said Freddie'sd hand was still clenched as though holding the gun. The newspaper that reported Freddie's shooting said they found him with the gun beside him not in his hand and Maria was with him practically all the time after sutrgery and don't you think a grieving mother wold hold his hand and move it so as not to make it look like he was holding a gun??? I agree with you lucky and i have to say too that I wonder about some of mando's staements to you in response to the article you posted. He says he knows the reason behind it because he saw Freddie 5 hours before, and in maria's book he tells her when he gets to the hospital that he was sorry, he had seen Freddie earlier in the day and had he known there was a problem he would have done anything to stoip him and yet he didn't he and his wife left. Forgive me hu-mee because i know you are friends but i can't help but think he is thinking of things he wish he had done as we all are. I do with all m,y heart believe that he did not commit suiscide like he and maria say but I don't think anyone knows the reasons behind it except Freddie and maybe Maria. Cheryl Harrell 10-17-2002, 05:13 AM I read that Freddie didn't like the ballet at first cuz he knew the kids would put him down & thought it wasn't manly enough. But later after finding out he'd be dancing with girls & it wasn't so bad after all, he didn't mind it after that. & He later got good at it... I think there are so many inconsistancies in what is being said about him it's hard to know what to believe. I think Tony was so goofed up on drugs at the time that he is remembering stuff that didn't happen or not remembering it right. I honestly think he was too goofed up to have even helped him. I think Mando & Maria would be the ones who know more than anyone what went on & are telling the truth. I think Mando was a real friend to Freddie. I think he had no idea how bad off Freddie was & just thought he was sad over his divorce. I feel he has nothing to feel any regret about cuz he honestly had no idea anything was wrong. I think Freddies death upset him so much he is unable to talk about it. I know it must be hard for him. Tony on the other hand knew something was wrong but was too goofed up on drugs to do anything to help him out. He needed help too & I'm glad he got it. I just wish Freddie had gotten help. He should be here too like Tony. I can't help but wonder since Freddie played with his gun around Tony, did he do it around Mando too? I'm wondering if maybe he played around with the gun only around certain people like Tony & Carol Novak & maybe around others like his parents & Mando, he didn't play around with the gun. Just an idea since from reading stuff Maria & Mando have said they never mentined seeing him goof around with the gun. I get the impression there were 2 Freddies, the one on pills who played around with the gun & the one we all know the real Freddie who was so sweet & lovable. Hopefully one day someone will share the real truth about him because I am so tired of him being remembered as the comic who was on drugs & all goofed up & shot his brains out. I don't think that was Freddie. He was a dear sweet boy who had his heart broken by divorce & took too many pills & that caused him to be so upset over his divorce that he did some things he wouldn't ordinarily do like accidentally commit suicide. It's all so sad... I am so glad Maria put out her book so the truth was told. He was a dear & sweet Puertorican boy who we all love... monicad1 10-17-2002, 12:49 PM I saw Tony Orlando the other night on the Today show and on ET and he does come off as an opportunist and a phony. He has used Freddie Prinze to get attention for years. Also, he didn't have to say what he said about Redd Foxx. I know Redd (who I just love) wasn't perfect, but Tony didn't have to say that he introduced him to coke even if he did. Let Redd rest in peace. |
