The pilot episode of Seinfeld is a pretty generic sitcom opener with only a sliver of the groundbreaking genius that would come in later seasons.

Lots of sitcoms took a while to find their footing, nothing unusual here.

I wonder if Elaine was planned to be brought in later, or if the network suggested it, since there were no regular female characters?
