Back in the 80's when it came to Saturday Morning cartoons ABC and CBS reigned supreme but NBC had always been third. Back then you could see cartoons like The Smurfs Disney's The Adventures Of The Gummi Bears Disney's The Wuzzles Kissyfur Camp Candy and Gravedale High. But when NBC no longer showed Saturday Morning cartoons due to NBC debuting a Saturday edition of the Today show I think what was truly the start of NBC doing away with cartoons in general was ever since the debut of Saved By The Bell in 1989 NBC had been very serious about adding a teen oriented block on Saturday mornings and with ABC and CBS now becoming supreme on Saturday mornings and now with FOX becoming Saturday morning cartoon champion I think NBC really didn't want to share cartoon competition with FOX and with the debut of the TNBC Saturday lineup NBC hoped that this would be their new focus rather than their cartoons. But you might think with NBC having Peacock NBC might return to cartoons again but this time making cartoons for Peacock. I think if NBC wouldn't have made a Saturday edition of the Today Show NBC would've focused on their cartoons more. But I think NBC was really afraid of competing with ABC and CBS when it came to Saturday morning cartoons in my opinion

My local NBC affiliate did away with cartoons and they couldn't be happier. The station aired locally produced shows promoting cultural affairs and events. Whoever thought that adults would want to watch those shows on a Saturday morning should have been shot. Hello...kids were the ones tuning in to watch Saturday morning cartoons.
Instead, there would be a two hour block for each community to sit in the same chairs and set only to announce that their organization would have a booth giving away pamphlets about ______ at the upcoming community awareness event.

I think the main reason why NBC no longer showed Saturday morning cartoons was mainly because of money but I feel if NBC hadn't made a Saturday edition of the Today show NBC would've been up in cartoon ranks with FOX CBS and ABC. Because when you get the general picture Saturday morning cartoons seemed to get the highest weekend audiences in children and everyone and I think once NBC was done with cartoons they focused on the teen audience with Saved By The Bell and once they saw how successful Saved By The Bell was they added California Dreams and this began their new focus with the teen brainchild TNBC. But someday in the future NBC should be making cartoons for Peacock

When it came to Saturday morning cartoons CBS and ABC were huge in the 80's but as I mentioned in my previous posts in this thread NBC had always remained third in Saturday morning cartoons I think because they were trying to compete with CBS and ABC. But I think NBC was really scared that CBS and ABC would steal ratings for their cartoon lineup. But when FOX started showing Saturday morning cartoons NBC was hurt by this because they couldn't handle the new competition driven by FOX and so that's why NBC decided to do away with their Saturday morning cartoons and replaced the whole hour with the Saturday edition of Today and began also focusing on the development of the TNBC lineup for teens now that Saved By The Bell was a hit in it's second and third seasons

I think NBC should revive their cartoon lineup but this time show the cartoons on Peacock because I truly think when NBC stopped their Saturday morning cartoons it was a huge mistake because kids loved Saturday morning cartoons and NBC was making their way to the top with their Saturday morning cartoons lineup and they could've competed with FOX CBS and ABC easily. But why replace the entire cartoon lineup with the new at the time Saturday edition of the Today Show was just wrong for NBC to do

Why I think the main reason why NBC mainly got rid of it's Saturday Morning cartoons lineup was the blame for NBC wanting to create a Saturday edition of Today and I think had they not done so NBC would've kept their Saturday Morning cartoon lineup. I also think that NBC was trying to steal ABC CBS and FOX's thunder when it came to cartoons because when you truly get the general picture ABC and CBS were always first and second in Saturday Morning cartoons and when FOX started airing their own Saturday Morning cartoon lineup NBC went to fourth place in cartoons. But when Saved by The Bell became a monster hit that led NBC to develop the TNBC Saturday Morning teen show block they began focusing on that rather than bringing their cartoon lineup back

In all honesty I think NBC was wrong to debut a Saturday edition of the Today Show because once the news was announced I think NBC was worried about what would become of their Saturday Morning cartoon lineup and being scared I think they cancelled all the NBC Saturday Morning cartoon lineup for fear that something terrible would happen due to this new change in NBC's Saturday Morning schedule. But what NBC could've done was save their Saturday Morning cartoon lineup and not focus on debuting a Saturday edition of the Today Show because they had so much plans to compete with FOX when it came to cartoons. But I think NBC had much bigger plans and what I also think caused the entire demise of NBC's Saturday Morning cartoon lineup was money and they thought since most of NBC's cartoons such as Camp Candy and Gravedale High was garnering low ratings they had no choice to demolish NBC's Saturday Morning cartoon lineup completely and focus on their new project which turned out to be TNBC. But when you get the general picture NBC would still be competing with Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network if their Saturday Morning cartoon lineup were to exist today

What I also think NBC could've done with their Saturday Morning cartoon lineup was have their own version of the ABC Weekend Special or CBS Storybreak because at the time those shows were popular in the 80's NBC could've had a weekend special of their own and that would've saved NBC's Saturday Morning cartoon lineup from it's death. But once Saved By The Bell became a smash hit NBC decided on developing the TNBC lineup and once they saw how TNBC was successful NBC abandoned it's Saturday Morning cartoon lineup plans altogether. But NBC should design a cartoon lineup for Peacock in the future
