View Full Version : Anybody see Ryan Seacrest's Wheel of Fortune debut today? Hawkee 09-10-2024, 02:09 AM Did anyone get to see Ryan Seacrest's Wheel Of Fortune debut episode today? I'm curious to know how he did the show today? icecream 09-10-2024, 07:46 PM I was away for his premiere episode, saw his 2nd episode tonight. Just like I thought, Ryan is a so-so Wheel of Fortune host, dull and no personality here. He abruptly cut off the first contestant during the opening interview. Hopefully Ryan only lasts a few years then Maggie Sajak gets promoted to host. Set is also different, I don't like how the toss-up puzzles are minimized from the full length they had been. Hawkee 09-11-2024, 02:07 AM In my eyes Wheel Of Fortune decided to replace Pat Sajak the same way Who Wants To Be A Millionaire replaced Cedric The Entertainer with Terry Crews by randomly selecting a host and I mainly think Ryan Seacrest got the Wheel Of Fortune job because they thought that he could grant the show more viewers and since Ryan Seacrest is well-known for American Idol and other shows I can guarantee Wheel Of Fortune won't last. Because another game show that did this exact same thing was Family Feud when Louie Anderson quit and was replaced by Richard Karn and then John O'Hurley and because of this Family Feud didn't get strong ratings until Steve Harvey became host and Steve is still going strong as host of Family Feud but I can say that after one season Ryan will be replaced or Wheel Of Fortune will get cancelled for good. I wonder what Merv Griffin would say about Ryan Seacrest hosting Wheel Of Fortune if Merv would be alive today? TMC 09-11-2024, 05:08 AM Ryan Seacrest proves he's the ideal choice to "replicate the emptiness of Pat Sajak" on Wheel of Fortune (https://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=AwrOukoOW.FmyEkAEytXNyoA;_ylu=Y29sbwNncTEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny/RV=2/RE=1727254543/RO=10/RU=https%3a%2f%2fslate.com%2fculture%2f2024%2f09%2fryan-seacrest-wheel-of-fortune-new-host-review.html/RK=2/RS=UyiFvnryqtDS92ujf9Dq5fhDiZk-) The unique wrinkles Seacrest brought to his first performance as host are so minor that they almost don’t deserve mentioning. dee2364 09-11-2024, 10:54 AM Why do they keep handing the reigns of legendary hosting gigs to this guy? I don't get it. He's a boring pretty boy who dresses like a boy band singer even though he's middle aged. He must know a lot of people in Hollywood--got Dick Clark, Casey Kasem and now Pat Sajack's gig. It's a miracle he wasn't chosen to replace Bob Barker or Monty Hall. Hawkee 09-12-2024, 02:04 AM I happened to see clips of Ryan Seacrest's Wheel Of Fortune on Youtube this morning and I can say that Wheel Of Fortune is ruined for good. For one thing the new set seems to be taken from a Wheel Of Fortune Nintendo Switch or Nintendo DS video game and I think they wanted to update the set with a whole new look and this is the look they went for. The gameplay is the same but the Toss-Up rounds are ruined with the contestants in picture-in-picture style squares and I don't recall Wheel Of Fortune doing this to the Toss-Up rounds in Pat Sajak's version. I also saw the new bonus round and it seems that LG Electronics sponsors the bonus round because instead of the RSTLNE letters the contestants choose any letters and a vowel plus LG is added and this new bonus round is impossible to win even with easy puzzles plus Ryan Seacrest always is smiling whether or not a contestant wins or doesn't win the bonus round. I also saw the new letterboard and it too feels like a letterboard from a Wheel Of Fortune computer game and it just doesn't feel like the old Wheel Of Fortune that fans grew up with and they should've improved it more in my eyes Overall Grade: C DadTheKing 09-12-2024, 07:21 PM Hi, Hawkee! I have not seen him but he is no Pat Sajak. I think he will be replaced soon. But he is a professional host so he will do ok. What he needs is an original game show to host. DTK Frank Gannucci 09-12-2024, 09:33 PM In my eyes Wheel Of Fortune decided to replace Pat Sajak the same way Who Wants To Be A Millionaire replaced Cedric The Entertainer with Terry Crews by randomly selecting a host and I mainly think Ryan Seacrest got the Wheel Of Fortune job because they thought that he could grant the show more viewers and since Ryan Seacrest is well-known for American Idol and other shows I can guarantee Wheel Of Fortune won't last. I wonder what Merv Griffin would say about Ryan Seacrest hosting Wheel Of Fortune if Merv would be alive today? This may be a rare misfire on Merv’s part but he might’ve approved of Rolf Benirschke hosting the NBC version (not the syndicated version) of the show in 1989 and Rolf was bad. It was either Merv or NBC decision. That’s why he only lasted six months. (January 1989 to July 1989). I think Merv (or maybe it was NBC) who didn’t approve of Pat hosting (since at the time he was a local weatherman.) howilu 09-13-2024, 09:48 AM It was Fred Silverman, who headed NBC who didn't approve of Pat Sajak because he felt he was "too local." Merv Griffin threatened to move Wheel of Fortune to CBS if Sajak wasn't approved. Merv got his way and Sajal stayed on for 41 years, daytime and nighttime. TSMIV 09-13-2024, 11:18 AM I've seen one episode with Seacrest. It was mostly forgettable, but they gave one of the contestants Taylor Swift tickets and acted like it was all spontaneous. Sure, it was! ThisLittlePiggy 09-13-2024, 11:43 AM I saw my first Ryan Seacrest episode yesterday. I wasn't impressed. Why did they change the set? It looks cheap. It's just weird without Pat I guess. I still like trying to solve the puzzles. Hawkee 09-14-2024, 02:11 AM I saw my first Ryan Seacrest episode yesterday. I wasn't impressed. Why did they change the set? It looks cheap. It's just weird without Pat I guess. I still like trying to solve the puzzles. I agree with you and I mainly think Wheel Of Fortune decided to change the set was to give the show a new image and introduce a new generation of fans and when I saw clips of Ryan Seacrest's debut episode of Wheel Of Fortune the set reminded me of the Wheel Of Fortune computer games. I can't also figure out why Ryan Seacrest was chosen as Pat Sajak's replacement and should've had host auditions before selecting a replacement for Pat Sajak. I think Wheel Of Fortune did what Who Wants To Be A Millionaire when Cedric The Entertainer left the show and they just selected Terry Crews and then Who Wants To Be A Millionaire went downhill until Chris Harrison replaced Terry Crews and then Who Wants To Be A Millionaire got cancelled after that which is what I think will happen to Wheel Of Fortune. I mean when Alex Trebek died Jeopardy went through many different hosts before choosing Ken Jennings so why couldn't Wheel Of Fortune do the same thing instead of randomly going with Ryan Seacrest ThisLittlePiggy 09-14-2024, 11:54 AM Now that you mention it, I bet it is for a younger audience and it does look sort of like a computer game. I prefer old school. I think Ryan was okay on America Idol but he's a bit of an odd fit for Wheel. Oh, well. I can just turn down the volume and watch to solve the puzzles and try to ignore the ugly set. LOL Dude111 09-14-2024, 05:20 PM Just like I thought. Garbage!!!! I wouldnt ever watch it again........ Pat was the BEST they ever had..... Edward216 09-14-2024, 08:46 PM Just like I thought. Garbage!!!! I wouldnt ever watch it again........ Pat was the BEST they ever had..... WRONG!! Ed. Edward216 09-14-2024, 08:50 PM Yes I did and I think Ryan's doing well hosting the show and he'll be around for a long time, I'm enjoying him on there. I'll never understand the undeserved hate Ryan gets from people! Having said that I hate the new set, but that's not why I watch the show so I can live with it and just ignore it. LOL. Ed. Dude111 09-15-2024, 12:25 AM Ya the new set doesnt help him,why change was worked well?? I swear everything now is utter trash!! Why support Garbage Eddie?? dee2364 09-17-2024, 04:08 PM Yes I did and I think Ryan's doing well hosting the show and he'll be around for a long time, I'm enjoying him on there. I'll never understand the undeserved hate Ryan gets from people! Having said that I hate the new set, but that's not why I watch the show so I can live with it and just ignore it. LOL. Ed. People hate Howard Stern, Bill Maher, the ladies at The View and a slew of other celebs. No one really hates Ryan Seacrest. Like me, they're tired of seeing him and on top of that, he's always been a bad fit for whatever gig he's taking over. WOF should've gone with a comedian or comedic actor like Family Feud, The Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal did. Game shows do best with someone in comedy who can crack jokes to keep the show moving as well as snark when the contestants mess up, but in a way that is good natured, not meanspirited. Ryan Seacrest is too vanilla and generic. He's suited to deliver celebrity news on a show like Extra but not be a game show host. TMC 09-25-2024, 02:00 AM Ryan Seacrest's first week as Wheel of Fortune host was up 21% over last year (https://tvline.com/ratings/wheel-of-fortune-ratings-ryan-seacrest-host-five-year-high-viewers-1235339164/) Wheel was the No. 1 show in syndication with 8.31 million viewers for Seacrest's first week since taking over for Pat Sajak. About 9.6 million watched Seacrest's first episode, up 70% from last fall's premiere. ThisLittlePiggy 09-25-2024, 08:41 AM I'm getting used to the new already. I just really enjoy watching this show. icecream 10-11-2024, 07:31 PM I turned on Wheel of Fortune's final segment waiting for Jeopardy! Now Ryan Seacrest is using Wheel to plug his studios. TMC 10-12-2024, 02:38 AM I Think We Need to Give Ryan Seacrest a Chance on ‘Wheel of Fortune’ (https://collider.com/ryan-seacrest-wheel-of-fortune-season-42/) Seacrest has faced a stream of criticism since he took over hosting duties from Pat Sajak. Dude111 10-12-2024, 06:10 PM If they didnt chance the stage and make it worse, maybe I would...... Its gone way downhill like Family Feud has......... TMC 10-22-2024, 08:05 PM Wheel of Fortune was TV's No. 1 most-watched entertainment program during premiere month (https://tvline.com/ratings/wheel-of-fortune-most-watched-tv-entertainment-show-ryan-seacrest-1235355707/) With Ryan Seacrest replacing longtime host Pat Sajak, Season 42 of the iconic game show "averaged 7.99 million total viewers from Sept. 9 to Oct. 6, marking Wheel‘s biggest premiere month audience in three years," according to TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich, adding: "Year-over-year, that audience of nearly 8 million marked a 12% increase; in the 25-54 demo, Wheel of Fortune is up +3%. Wheel of Fortune also stands as TV’s No. 1 most-watched entertainment program, besting every series — including all primetime fare — during the month of September, across broadcast, cable and syndication." Sgt. Saunders 10-24-2024, 07:04 AM Is Ryan Seacrest the long-lost son of the late Regis Philbin, arguably American television’s most annoying and ubiquitous gadfly/tv pitchman? icecream 10-24-2024, 12:00 PM Regis Philbin was a great host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Million Dollar Password. And I enjoyed his guest appearances on Mad About You, Diagnosis Murder, and Seinfeld. Ryan Seacrest is not in the same league as Regis. Sgt. Saunders 10-25-2024, 11:04 AM Do you remember when the late, great Dick Clark suffered a stroke and was unable to host his annual New Year’s Eve Show on ABC? Fortunately, ABC was able to enlist Mr. Clark’s friend and colleague, Regis Philbin, to fill-in for Mr. Clark as the host for that much-anticipated show. As a result of Mr. Clark’s stroke, there was some concern if he would be able to return to host the next New Year’s Eve Show on ABC. In a display of great courage and determination, Mr. Clark undertook a lengthy series of grueling and demanding physical therapy sessions to recover his ability to articulate effectively. So, it was very moving, indeed, to see Mr. Clark return the following year to valiantly, and with some understandable difficulty, resume his New Year’s Eve hosting duties on ABC. And, where was Regis Philbin when his good friend Dick Clark was back on ABC? Why, Regis (or “Reege”), was over on the Fox Channel, hosting that cable channel’s New Year’s Eve show. Gee, wasn’t that rather tacky and even greedy of Regis Philbin to go up on the air against his good friend and colleague, Dick Clark, when Mr. Clark was making such a courageous and emotional return to the airwaves? Shame on Regis Philbin. |
