I notice on this show and many others, men will be wearing neckties for just casual everyday occasions, Grady especially comes to mind. Grady nearly always wore a necktie, I think even when he was doing housework while keeping the Sanford house while Fred was away. And I think some of Fred's other friends did too.

Also Ed Higgins from Mama's Family and the Family Sketches was usually wearing a tie while just sitting around the house.

It just seemed odd, these men were VERY laid back in the apparel, and they seemed like the type who would HATE wearing a tie.

Was this a common thing at that time for men to wear a tie all the time?
