Makin' It - granted the song by the same name was only a one-hit wonder, it seems to have had more success than the actual sitcom did.

Probably the last season of Roseanne, and possibly Three's Company and Gilligan's Island.

To this day I still hear the Greatest American Hero theme on this easy listening station (at least twice in the past few months). They play retro tv themes in and amongst their usual playlist.

Welcome Back, Kotter. I'm conviced after Netflixing this show we could not have liked it for the comedy/acting (imo, a turd) and must have been hypnotized by the song.

The show lasted 7 weeks. The song stayed on the top 100 for 24.

Another theme-larger-than-show example I can think of is "Angie".

S.W.A.T. - lasted 1 1/2 seasons from February 1975 - 1976, was a top radio hit in the '70s.

The Heights was a FOX series in the early 1990's that lasted about 6 weeks before it was cancelled, however it's theme song "How To Talk To An Angel" (or something of that vein) was a chart hit, hitting the top 50 of the year.

I thought this thread looked familiar.

The Theme from S.W.A.T by Rhythm Heritage was one of only 4 tv themes to hit #1 on the Billboard charts. The Others were:

Welcome Back by John Sebastian
Theme from Miami Vice by Jan Hammer
How Do You Talk to an Angel - The Heights

S.W.A.T. was a great show. The reason it didn't last was not because it wasn't popular but because parents objected to the violence and the fact that their kids were imitating them. I know, I was one of the kids.
