He made a big mistake in my opinion!!In the article it says the network didn't want him and he was asked to leave. Everyone from the original pilot's cast was fired except for Leonard Nimoy.

Majel Barrett had a pretty big role in the pilot as Number One, and she was brought back as Nurse Chapel. I don't know when her relationship with Gene Rodenberry started, maybe that was a reason, but they weren't married until 1969.

Test audience, I've read, didn't care for her character as Number One.

I prefer her as Nurse Chapel in all respects. Very beautiful, absolutely dynamite in those very short dresses!
