The Simpsons was a runaway train of success in the 90s, and Fox Broadcasting was raking in the dough. However, once the talent started noticing the disparity between the success of the show and their paychecks, they took action. After a work stoppage in 1998 where Dan Castelleneta, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Yeardly Smith, and Nancy Cartwright all held out for more money, FOX acquiesced to some of their demands and work continued. The next person to ask, wouldn’t be so lucky. Her name was Maggie Roswell, and her request for a slight increase in pay was met with a hardline stance that drove her from the show, and ultimately led to the death of her most well-know character Maude Flanders. This is the story of how Fox's corporate greed lead to the departure of Roswell, the death of Maude, and both of their returns to The Simpsons.
