Hilarie Burton Morgan is sharing a tease on the "One Tree Hill" sequel series in the works at Netflix. In telling the next chapter of this story, Burton Morgan said she wanted to work with a team led by females.

“What I can say is that this go-around, being able to work with a team of women and look at these stories [and] these characters through a female lens is something that — whether I was doing a reboot or a brand new show or a different movie at this phase in my life, female teamwork is something that is so vital to me,” Burton Morgan told People of the upcoming series.



She added, “It is the core of anything I’ve done that’s successful. So I’m excited to be able to team up with people that I look up to, people that I love dearly.”

Burton Morgan teased that her new perspective in life “affects how you tell stories” and influenced the new series and that she wants to put out there now “are very different than they were when I was 20.”

James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz Speak Out on Whether Nathan and Haley Will Return for "One Tree Hill" Revival

James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz opened up about the upcoming “One Tree Hill” sequel series, currently in the works at Netflix.




“I am absolutely open to being a part of a revisiting to Tree Hill. But as far as this particular one, I don’t know. It’s so early,” Joy Lenz tells Variety. “I don’t know if it’s in pilot, I don’t know if it’s in series. I don’t know where it’s at.”

As for Lafferty, he’s focused on the show he created with costar Stephen Colletti, “Everyone Is Doing Great,” the first season of which is available on Amazon Prime Video.

“Personally, I’m blown away by the fans that make a conversation like this even possible. Professionally, I’m completely focused on finding ‘Everyone is Doing Great’ Season 2 the right home,” he tells Variety. “Until then, consider me grateful for this moment and cheering everyone on!”




That said, Lenz finds it so “sweet” to see fans hoping to see Naley together again. But does she think the show works without the original group?

“I don’t know,” she replies. “What I get out of people wanting to see Nathan and Haley is that the show meant so much to people. The characters meant so much to people. They feel so connected to their experience of us, it’s almost like we were friends they grew up with. They’re championing their friends and I just love that. It’s worth its weight in gold.”



Lafferty adds, “I don’t know how to speculate on what would or wouldn’t work in this context. What really comes to mind is that it’s been a defining aspect of my life to have contributed to the portrayal.

I will always embrace having had that experience, and it will always be an honor to know that people care.”

Sophia Bush Shares Update on "One Tree Hill" Sequel Series after Announcement Leaked “Early”

With "One Tree Hill" making its long-awaited return, Sophia Bush is in the process of reconnecting with Brooke Davis.

“It’s unfortunate when development news leaks early. That was a bit of a bummer for us, because we wanted to get it across the finish line and then have a party,” Bush told Access.



Returning as an executive producer with Hilarie Burton Morgan, Bush raved that the process of developing the series has been “really incredible.”

“The fans have kept that show alive, and they’ve asked for it for so long, and the studio came to us about,” she continued. “I think 10 years ago, I would have said ‘not on your life.’ And now I realize that the opportunity to have not just a comfort show, but kind of a home base, matters for people.”

And so, beginning to figure out how we might tell these stories and reunite our whole ragtag bunch feels really, really amazing. If it happens, I think you’ll be very pleased.”

Hilarie Burton is "Very Confident" in "One Tree Hill" Reboot, But it hasn't been Greenlit Yet

Hilarie Burton Morgan is determined to get audiences back to "One Tree Hill" — and she's feeling pretty good about her chances.

Burton told PEOPLE, "We're in the process of presenting things to Netflix, and they will get to decide whether or not it's greenlit. But I think the more people show that they're excited about it, the better."



She continued, "Our showrunner, Becky Hartman Edwards, is so good at female friendships and multi-generational shows, and that's why we were so excited to team up with her."

"I feel very confident in what's being presented," Burton said, adding that she hopes Netflix "goes for it."
