On the passing of his mother, Betty Bridges

Betty A. Bridges Dies: Mother of Todd Bridges was 83

Betty A. Bridges, who guested on dozen of popular TV series during a 40-year career ranging from "Good Times" and "Charlie’s Angels" to "Lou Grant" and "Hill Street Blues" to "ER" and "2 Broke Girls" and later was a prominent acting coach, died August 27. She was 83.

She died at the Phoenix home of her son, "Diff’rent Strokes" and reality TV star Todd Bridges, where she had been in hospice care. Rep Elizabeth Much confirmed her death to Deadline, but no cause was given.

She played a crucial role in Todd’s recovery from addiction. Her family said her tough love and unwavering support highlighted the profound impact of family and friends in overcoming life’s toughest battles.

I did not know Todd's mother was an actor as well.

Sad news indeed. I remember seeing her pop up sporadically on Diff'rent Strokes throughout its long run, most notably in season one's "Willis' Birthday," in which she had a guest-starring role as Vernon's (Anthony Thompkins) mom, Mrs. Brooks; her voice would later be heard off-camera--on a cassette recording--as Arnold and Willis' late mother, Lucy Mae Jackson, in season five's "Memories." I also remember her memorable guest appearance on Good Times ("The Nude") alongside the late, great Carl Weathers (who passed away back in February).

May Betty Bridges rest in peace...she will be missed.
